The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary, Falmouth, ME

The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary, Falmouth, ME Summer hours! One Service on Sundays at 9 a.m. All are welcome! We welcome individuals and families from many surrounding communities.

Begun in 1890 as a private family chapel, The Episcopal Church of Saint Mary was given by its founders to the Episcopal Diocese of Maine in 1926 so that it might be a place of worship for all. At Saint Mary's, we are building authentic, vibrant Christ-centered community as we celebrate, honor and serve together. We live out our faith in a "big tent". We arrive at our moral decisions by appealing t

o Holy Scripture, thousands of years of Judeo-Christian tradition, and our own reason and experience. It is not surprising to find Episcopalians having a diversity of opinions on any contentious social issue of the day. Diversity is welcome, and unity is found in our common worship around the Lord's Table.

Third Sunday after Pentecost

Abraham runs to welcome three strangers with lavish hospitality, and discovers he is entertaining the Lord, who fulfills the impossible promise that brings laughter to Sarah’s lips, because nothing is too wonderful for God. Paul traces the arc of that same grace; justified by faith, we stand in hope that does not disappoint, because God’s love was poured out for us while we were still sinners. Jesus looks out at the harassed and helpless crowds with compassion, and sends his disciples out to do what he has done — proclaiming, healing, and giving freely what they have freely received. We are that church, called still to proclaim truth with boldness and minister justice with compassion, trusting the Spirit to speak through us.

The Second Sunday after Pentecost

Abram simply got up and went, leaving everything familiar behind on the strength of God’s promise alone. That leap of faith echoes through Paul’s letter as the very model of how grace works: not through law, but through trust in a God who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that do not exist. Jesus embodies that same life-giving grace as he calls a despised tax collector, dines with sinners, heals a woman deemed untouchable, and raises a little girl from death; he came not for the righteous but for those who know their need of a physician. All good proceeds from this God who inspires, guides, and makes good on every promise.

Today we marvel at the God who spoke light and life into existence, who formed us in the divine image and crowned us with glory and honor. The whole of creation bears witness to the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, whose love and grace are woven into every corner of the cosmos. Jesus sends us out into that same creation with a great commission: to make disciples, to baptize, to teach, and to trust that he is with us always, to the end of the age.

On this day, the Spirit is poured out, opening the way of life to every people and every place.

The breath of God fills the church, sending us out to proclaim, to serve, and to love in ways that renew the world.

We pray that this gift would be kindled in us again, that we may share in the life of the Holy Spirit and bear it to the ends of the earth.
