🏳️🌈 50 Full and Equal: Celebrating 50 Years of LGBTQ+ Inclusion in The Episcopal Church
Last week, Fr. Burl joined Episcopalians from across the church for “50 Full and Equal: 50 Years in Pursuit of a Promise,” a three-day gathering in Minneapolis commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 General Convention resolution affirming that LGBTQ+ people have a full and equal claim to the pastoral care and support of The Episcopal Church.
The gathering celebrated five decades of progress while recognizing the work that remains. The final celebration took place at St. Mark’s Cathedral, where Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe presided at Holy Eucharist and Bishop Gene Robinson preached.
Fr. Burl shared a few photos from the gathering, including a wonderful selfie with six of The Episcopal Church’s eleven openly q***r, currently serving bishops: Deon Johnson (Missouri), Jeff Mello (Connecticut), Sarah Fisher (Eastern Carolina), Antonio Gallardo-Lucena (Los Angeles), Bonnie Perry (Michigan), and Mary Glasspool (Assistant Bishop of Massachusetts).
As Fr. Burl put it: “It’s been a wonderful three days.” ❤️🏳️🌈
We give thanks for those who helped move our church toward greater inclusion—and for all who continue the work of building a church where everyone is welcomed, affirmed, and loved.
