Creation Care Ministry Education Outreach-Two members of the Creation Care Ministry chatted with the Saint James third graders on our parish garden before school ended.

The third graders learned about photosynthesis, all the plants in the garden, the importance of pollinators, composting, and what a giving garden is. They were able to view living worms and seedlings close up using microscopes. It was a wonderful morning of learning and experiencing God’s grandeur. It is great when our ministries can interact with our school students.

Our WorkCamp crew for Saint James will leave next Saturday for a week of service in Shenandoah County Virginia. In preparation, all students participated in a Tool Training Day to learn the basics of hand/power tool use and safety protocols before putting their skills to work. The training included wearing the proper protection (helmets, work boots, safety glasses, and gloves) as well as how to use the various tools and ladders. The students were supervised and trained by our experienced contractors and adult volunteers who will accompany them to WorkCamp.

Thank you to the wonderful support from our parish that will allow students to attend WorkCamp. We had a record number of students registered for this year. Please keep them in your prayers next week as they help improve the lives of fellow Virginians in need.

Join us for the first-ever Saint James Parish Library Summer Reading Challenge! Readers of all ages are invited to participate. Simply borrow books from the Saint James Parish Library collection, read them, and record each title on your reading log. The challenge ends August 16th.

Participants who meet the reading goal for their age group and submit their completed log will be entered into a prize drawing. There are three groups: pre-K-Rising 5th, Rising 6-8th, and high school/adults. The library is open the 1st and 3rd Sundays at the Parish House from 10:00am-2:00pm. This summer the schedule is slightly modified due to the July 4th holiday weekend. Visit our homepage, https://stjamescatholic.org/parish-library-summer-reading-challenge/, for more details and to download the reading log.

You can download the reading log from our website or there are a few copies in all the vestibules. Please email your log to [email protected] or drop it off at the Rectory Office or Parish Library.

Saint James welcomes our seminarian Tyler Boreani who will be with us until early August.

He grew up at Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Wi******er, Virginia. He attended and graduated from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor’s degree in history. Between his graduation in 2020 and his entrance into seminary in 2024, Tyler worked for the Republican National Committee, taught high school history and math, and coached cross country and track. He graduated with an M.A. in law from Regent University in December of 2023 and subsequently applied to the seminary for the Diocese of Arlington.

In 2024-25, Tyler completed his first year of seminary (propaedeutic year) at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary before he was sent to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary where he has just completed his first year of philosophy studies.

Be sure to say hello and welcome Tyler when you see him around this summer.
