Passover was an annual Jewish festival commemorating the Israelite’s deliverance from 400 years of oppressive slavery in Egypt. The blood of a sacrificial lamb was the mark required by God as He passed over Egypt, bringing judgment on the enemies of the Israelites and deliverance to His people. In this moving and descriptive teaching, Dutch unpacks five “Pictures of Passover,” illustrating Jesus as our sacrificial lamb and the benefits we, as believers, now possess because of what He did. We are the beneficiaries of Jesus’ sacrifice!

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world.” – John 1:29

Having Done All, Stand (by Tim Klink of Prison Discipleship Ministry)

Ephesians 6:13
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

When I enlisted in the United States Navy I had absolutely no idea how to be a sailor. It was during the Veit Nam war, and of course, nobody really wanted to go there and not return. I served about one year in the reserves while I completed high school, and during the meetings I learned several things, such as how to stand guard over a door that went nowhere. I was learning how to carry out orders, which is vital to survival.

The day came for the bus ride to boot camp. That was the first I had ever been away from home, and I was scared. More things were taught me about how to be a beneficial part of the defense of our country, and how to survive some horrible conditions. After boot camp, and a short stay aboard a ship, I returned home to wait upon my orders which came a few months later. I was starting to feel more secure about what was expected of me, but still somewhat scared.

Close to the end of my two years aboard a small Navy ship, I was feeling really confident that I knew what I was doing. I felt confident that I could handle almost anything that presented itself because I had been taught properly, as well as having the support of the other men on the ship when needed.

Looking back, I see how God was working in my life in all things to be better equipped to serve Him. The training I received was vital, but it was the Lord who allowed me to receive it for His purpose. Having received God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and having the very Word of God as my training for all situations, why would I do anything other than stand when things get tough?

God's Word tells us that He has prepared all things so that we may be able to stand, not so we can run away. Are you standing in the confidence that God is totally in charge, or are you allowing the enemy to convince you to run? Never doubt in darkness what you have learned in the light. Stand!

In Christ Alone

When we come to God in prayer, it is of the utmost importance that we confess ourselves before Him. This is so important as we head into the time of year that we celebrate Resurrection Sunday. Most of us think of confession as just admitting something wrong, but confession goes much deeper than that.

Confession is, first and foremost, about agreement. Confession begins when we come to God and say to Him that we are not right in our heart and we want to be like Him. It’s not about listing our sins. It’s about being on the same page with Him.

The prayer of confession starts with the word, “You” before we get to “me.” We acknowledge the greatness of God first and then we confess the weakness of man. A great place to start is by reading Psalm 29, focusing on God’s glory and strength and what He is due. Follow that with a hymn.

Not just any hymn. A hymn that exalts God and makes His complete and perfect nature clear and unmistakable. A hymn that tells God that He, and He alone, is worthy. Such a hymn is the song by Getty and Townsend called “In Christ Alone.”

In Christ Alone celebrates the greatness of who God is and what He has done. He is hope, light, strength and solid ground. He is comfort in drought and storm; peace and love in our strife and fears.

He is God in flesh who burst forth from the grave in victory over sin! He gives us power over Hell and all mankind. All this is found in Christ alone.

Now, your heart is ready for prayer. You can pray your prayer of confession with an open heart to the God who cares. The lyrics to “In Christ Alone” are posted below.
