The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is aware the Fairview Town Council has launched a campaign in an attempt to pressure the Church to change the Fairview Temple plan that the Fairview Town Council approved in April 2025. The approved temple plan was a compromise made during joint mediation, which significantly reduced the height and size of the Fairview Temple. The Church broke ground on the temple in February of 2026 and will proceed in full accordance with the agreed upon plan. The Church negotiated in good faith, accepted significant compromises, and will continue to honor the agreement that was lawfully reached by both parties.

On May 20, the Executive Director of the Temple Department for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a communication to Mayor John Hubbard reaffirming the Church’s commitment to proceed with the temple design previously approved by Fairview Town Council in a 5-2 vote in April 2025.

The current temple plan reflects the Church’s willingness to work collaboratively with the community. The design incorporates significant reductions in both height and scale from the original proposal — a meaningful compromise made in good faith to ensure the building would complement the surrounding area. The site itself sits along Stacy Road, a four-lane arterial corridor, directly across from the City of Allen and adjacent to two existing houses of worship, with a third planned for future development.

The communication further explains that architectural decisions for a house of worship appropriately rest with the faith community, not local government. Aesthetic disagreement over a steeple does not meet the bar of a compelling government interest. Steeples have been a cherished part of the American religious landscape for generations and this temple’s modest steeple would simply continue that tradition in Fairview.

When the temple is complete, a public open house will be held so that the surrounding community can experience firsthand the beauty, tranquility, and spirit of goodwill this house of worship will bring to the area.

The following statement was issued in response to recent media inquiries:

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mayor and Town Council of Fairview spent considerable time to reach a design that addressed the concerns of all parties. That mediation process resulted in a significant size reduction, which was ultimately approved in April 2025 by the town and is now under construction.

Making changes to the project at this stage would create substantial delays. The Fairview temple is an important part of meeting the religious needs of Latter-day Saints throughout north Texas."
