The green space located at the western edge of the church property is being developed by Ray Schaney and several Boy Scouts into a native wildlife area. This area has now been officially named the Woodland Sanctuary. It serves as a refuge for humans, wildlife, and insects. Stay tuned for further updates as this area continues to be enhanced.

USCRI, our local organization that aids refugees and immigrants, needs strollers for young immigrant families. If you have one to donate, please contact John Rushe, and he will arrange for delivery.

On Saturday, September 26th, the Women of St. Stephen's will meet in the church parish hall from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. MJ Radock and Kathie Gregory will present an introduction to Tai Chi.

All ladies, regardless of age, as well as guests from outside the congregation, are welcome to join. A sign-up sheet is available on the welcome table.

Over the six years we have been involved in this ministry, our egg donations have remained consistent. However, we have seen a significant drop in donations of toilet paper and paper towels.

Our next egg donation will be Friday, October 2 at 9:30 AM.

If you would like to contribute paper goods, you don’t have to wait for the monthly collection. You can bring them to church any Sunday, and we will store them until the next distribution. Thank you for your support!

On Sunday, September 20, excess native plants from our Pollinator Garden will be available for adoption after worship on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no charge for the plants, but donations to the Pollinator Garden fund are welcome.

Last year, Ray Schaney and members of the Pollinator Garden team expanded our church’s natural space by letting a section of the western property grow naturally. By pausing mowing, we’re encouraging native plants, shrubs, and trees to grow and create a peaceful respite—an ongoing project designed to work in harmony with nature.

A quick walk through the area this spring revealed exciting new growth, including oak and maple seedlings, native thistle, and annual daisy fleabane. These plants are already hard at work supporting local wildlife:

Native Thistle: Serves as a host plant for Painted Lady butterflies, offers nectar for Monarchs, provides nest material for goldfinches in the spring, and supplies seeds for winter feeding.

Daisy Fleabane: Attracts bees and wasps while hosting several native moth and butterfly species.

Youth from our Boy Scout troop are also helping enhance the area through their Eagle Scout projects. AJ Roberts is laying down a w**d barrier and wood chips to create a clear walking path, while another Scout plans to build a trellis and welcome sign for the entrance.

This "wild" sanctuary is already making an impact—a doe and her fawn have recently taken refuge here, proving we’re caring for more than just winged wildlife!
