Friday is Veterans Day. If you know someone who has been in the service, thank them. We owe a lot to our veterans. Without them, we would still be paying tribute to the King who lives on the other side of the Big Pond. Without veterans, we would never have experienced the freedoms that allowed the industrial revolution and the rise of private enterprise. Without veterans, everything we own would be made in China. Wait, scratch that one, everything we own is made in China, but that is another post. I love The United States. In spite of her warts, I believe she is still the greatest country in the world. As well publicized as our country's problems are, people are still trying to enter rather than leave the United States. But this Veterans Day, I want to focus on another group of veterans. These veterans have spent their life fighting another war. This war is not against foreign enemies…well they are foreign, but they are spiritual rather than physical. We need to honor those men and women who have made it the purpose and mission of their lives to fight a spiritual war against Satan and his cronies. Many have died and are still dying to spread the good news of the gospel and the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Just like the United Sates, many inside and outside the Kingdom of Christ fuss about her warts and the best way to fix them. The Kingdom of Christ (seen today as the church) does have its issues and problems. They are man-made problems. However, problems and all, Jesus Christ, the Ultimate Veteran in the war against Satan, gave His life so that His Kingdom could exist and grow. His Apostles gave their lives spreading that good news. Veterans today give their lives to share the good news that men and women everywhere might be truly free thru the blood and grace of Jesus Christ. This Veterans Day, thank a vet. They deserve our thanks as well as our support. But remember also to think about those veterans who have fought and are still fighting the ultimate enemy. Better yet, do more than think about them…join them in the fight. As Christians, we really have no choice, it is our calling.

There are two paths to choose each day. The path that follows God's ways and the path that follows man's. May we be walking in step with God so that we can follow His path and learn His ways.

I don't know about you, but I need reminding that He is God and I am not! Have a blessed day!

I once had a blue heeler dog named Dew Boy (As in Mountain Dew…beats a name like Old Spot or Blackie). Dew Boy liked to chase moles. I don't know why he liked to do this and to my knowledge, he never caught one. However, he was out in the yard every day making a valiant effort. I don't know what he would have done had he been successful in his quest and finally caught one…eat it I suppose. I have heard that moles taste a lot like chicken. I figure chasing and digging for moles was in his DNA, and whether he was successful or not, at least he got plenty of exercise and kept his physique nice and svelte, unlike my physique which is the opposite of svelte. I started pondering on all of this mole chasing and DNA. A brief study of sociology and archeology tells us that it is in man's DNA to worship some sort of god. Every society that has ever been discovered and studied has worshiped something or someone. Whether we want to admit it or not, deep down, most of realize that this world didn't just accidently turn out this way as the result of a giant space belch. This realization of a Creator drives us to worship and, to put it into the context of our conversation, to chase after God. However, unlike Dew Boy and his daily pursuit of moles, our chasing after God does not have to end in disappointment. As a matter of fact, God hardwired us to be successful in our chase. You read that right, God WANTS us to catch Him! Hebrews 11:6 is just one example from scripture that tells us God will reward a diligent search for Him. Many people are chasing after happiness and peace. Like Dew Boy and his chase for moles, they are coming up empty handed. If you are one of those chasing happiness and peace, may I offer you a new quarry worthy of your search? Try chasing God by studying the Bible, praying and having conversations about God with others on the same chase. When you find God, you will also find that happiness and peace that has eluded you for so long. One more thing….God's manna and His Living Water is more satisfying than any chicken you have ever tasted.

Ephesians 2:7 tells us that God saved us for one great, far-reaching purpose. In the coming ages, God wants to show us all the riches of His grace. It will take an eternity to see all of the riches in God's storehouse of grace. The term "Ages to come" literally means "Ages rolled upon ages." Broken down it looks like this: "The exceeding riches of His grace…in His kindness…toward us…through Christ." In the ages to come, God will be eternally glorified while we will be eternally basking in the riches of His grace. You can't beat a deal like that. Be blessed, and be a blessing!

"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works." (Ephesians 2:10a KJV)
In Jesus, we have been created to do good works. We don't do good works to "get" Jesus, that is the Holy Spirit's job of regeneration (rebirth). Because we have been created anew by the Holy Spirit, we do good works. Good works should be a natural out-flowing of the Spirit. Some folks quench the Spirit by rejecting the good news of the gospel. Other quench the Spirit by not submitting to the Spirit's sanctifying work in their lives and they fail to become more like Christ while others are reborn, submit to the Spirit's work in their heart and grow to Christian maturity, looking, smelling and acting more like Jesus every day. Are you a quencher or a grower...bears some thought. Be blessed and be a blessing today!
