Institutions, like people, have a life span. Today, ballots were opened to reveal that the church membership has voted 27 to 2 (with 3 abstentions) to permanently close the church. We will continue to gather for worship both in person and remotely through May 1st, when we will celebrate 180 years of ministry at the Four Corners of Fairport. Please pray for our people.

12/17/2021

In response to the new masking mandates from New York State, all persons are now asked to wear a mask at all times while in the church building, including during the singing of hymns. The only exception will be for those leading worship while on the platform at the front of the sanctuary.

Please read further for the complete guidelines:

Guidelines for Public Use of the Building
During the Ongoing Covid-19 Crisis
December 14, 2021

Welcome to the First Baptist Church of Fairport. In light of the recent changes to the Covid-19 guidance offered by the CDC and New York State, we ask you to please follow these guidelines to maintain the health and safety of all who enter the church building.

Health Screening
• All persons entering the building will go through a simple health screening.
• A volunteer will take your temperature with a touchless thermometer.
o If your temperature is 100.0°F or higher, you will be asked to return home.
o If you do not pass the screening, or if you refuse to answer the questions, you will be asked to return home.
o If you are feeling ill, please do not enter the building.
• For those who have been fully vaccinated:
o If we have seen a record of your vaccination, we will take your temperature and ask if you are feeling well.
o If we have not yet seen it, please bring a copy of your vaccination record with you the first time you return to the building;
 This can be your original record, a photocopy, a photo on your phone, or the New York Excelsior Pass;
 We will make a record of this so that you will not have to bring it again in the future;
o You will need to wear a mask at all times while you are in the building, including while singing hymns. The only exception for to this is for those, including the pastor, who are leading worship from the platform.
o Free masks will be available to you if you do not have one.
o If you choose not to share your vaccination information, you will be asked to wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing.
• For those who are not fully vaccinated:
o Please wear a mask and maintain proper social distancing at all times.
o Free masks will be available to you if you do not have one.
• Contact information:
o We will keep a record of everyone in attendance. You will be asked to provide your name and, if we do not already have these on file, your address and phone number, so that health workers can contact you in the event that you may have come in contact with someone with covid-19.

Social Distancing
• Please enter the building using the door from the parking lot that leads to the elevator.
• Please do not share the elevator with anyone outside your household.
• Please maintain a minimum distance of six feet from anyone not fully vaccinated, or not in your immediate household.
• Hand sanitizer will be made available throughout the building. Please use it (or wash your hands) anytime you touch a surface (such as door k***s, railings, or the backs of pews) that is likely to have been touched by others.
• Those who are vaccinated may greet one another, but those not vaccinated should refrain from hugging or shaking the hands of anyone not in your immediate household.
• Two rest rooms will be open. These will be the handicapped-accessible rest room off the kitchen area and the one at the west end of the building, across from the nursery.

In the Sanctuary
• In order to help maintain social distancing, every other pew has been blocked off. These are designated by having the pew cushions up. Please sit only in the pews that have the cushions on the seat.
• For the Children’s Time, children will be invited to come forward and sit six feet apart.
• We intend to include congregational singing in our worship services. If you are not fully vaccinated, please maintain a minimum seating distance of twelve feet in all directions from anyone not in your immediate household.
• Hymn texts and scripture texts will be projected on the wall so that we can limit the touching of hymnals and pew bibles. If you prefer to use these, we suggest that you take a copy home with you after the service and bring it with you each week for worship. These will be considered as “your hymnal and bible” for the duration of the crisis.
• Only a very limited number of printed bulletins will be made available on Sunday mornings. Instead, Betty Brandt will email each church member a copy of the bulletin each Friday. You may print out your own copy if you so desire.
• Offering plates will be available at the rear of the sanctuary so that you may offer your gifts upon entering or exiting.
• On Communion Sundays, pre-filled cups with a foil-wrapped wafer attached will be given to you as you enter the building. After worship, please dispose of the foil and cup in a waste basket at the rear of the sanctuary.

Following the Worship Service
• We are not hosting fellowship time following the worship service.

10/02/2021

Tomorrow, October 3, is World Communion Sunday. Please plan to join us for worship at 10:00 am, and have some bread and juice prepared so that you can celebrate Communion with us and with millions of other Christians around the world.

08/17/2021

In light of the increase in covid infections in Monroe County, we have updated our guidelines. Effective immediately, everyone will be required to wear a mask upon entering the building. Those who have been vaccinated may choose to remove them once they have reached their seats, but will need to put them back on before leaving their seats. Those who are unvaccinated will be asked to wear masks at all times.
