On Thursday we welcomed 14 new refugees from Afghanistan to the clothing closet to choose clothing for themselves and their families. Brand new refugees take a little longer because we make sure we find winter coats, boots, hats, scarves and gloves as well as new underwear and socks besides all the usual things like pants and shirts. While we were working with these new refugees, we received a call about a Ukrainian family of 4 who had just arrived the night before with only a carry on. We had them come as well to get what they needed. A very busy Thursday, but very rewarding!

Congratulations to Malina for receiving a Dell Inspiron Laptop from the Saint's Place Refugee Educational Initiative! Malina is from Afghanistan and arrived in the US in 2019. She attended RIA for six months and at Rush-Henrietta for two years. Malina received the most glowing recommendation from her teachers and we are exciting to see what the future holds for her! She is attending MCC in the fall to study nursing. Congratulations!

Congratulations to our final $6,000 vocational scholarship from fall of 2021!

"Mr. Sultani entered the Electrical program at OACES in September of 2021. Mr. Sultani joined the program, as wanted a better life for his wife and four children. He acquired his Level I (Residential) and Level II (Commercial) certificates along with obtaining an OSHA 10—Hour Safety awareness card for the construction industry.

During his time in the program, Mr. Sultani also worked on improving his “soft skills” in an effort not simply to get a job, but to start a lasting career.

After much hard work, Mr. Sultani graduated. Recently on March 25th he received a job offer with Larry Masci as an electrician. Mr. Sultani now has the ability to provide for his family and grow within this profession."

With Holy Week starting on Sunday, have ever wondereed why we do what we do? Check out the explanation from the Catholic Courier. Also check out SJR’s website for Mass times.

A 1955 decree authorized by Pope Pius XII instituted several adaptions to Holy Week services, promoting greater involvement of the laity.
