As the united and worshipping community of Our Lady of the Assumption, we are called to take our part in the liturgy. Just as the priest has gestures and words that he must recite or sing in order for the Eucharistic celebration to be fulfilled, so does the congregation have its own role in gesture, word, and song. We are here to praise our God – just as the saints and angels are doing at the very
same time with us!
“Mother Church earnestly desires that all the faithful should be led to that fully conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations which is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy. Such participation by the Christian people as “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a redeemed people (1 Pet. 2:9; cf. 2:4-5), is their right and duty by reason of their baptism.” ~ Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Chapter 1, II, 14
In practical terms, raising your voice to God during mass is a perfect example of how to fully participate in the liturgy. If you desire to become more immersed into worship, consider offering your voice and talents to the music ministry. You will experience the liturgy on a whole different level!
“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for this pre-eminence is that, as sacred song united to the words, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.” ~ Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Chapter 6, 112
You are called, therefore, to participate in this universal art called music – and in the traditions of our church, sing the sacred texts and prayers in the form of Sacred Music.
