Wednesday in the Word
Hebrews 2:1-4
"Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4 God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?"
It is a good thing for people to bear witness to the truth about anything. It is very good for us to bear witness to the truth about our salvation that came through Jesus Christ. However, God never leaves Himself without witness, even if our witness should fail. Not because He fears the lies of the devil, or is insecure in His position, but because there is no one greater that can testify than Himself. This is the highest form of bearing witness, and His testimony is true. Jesus said, in John 5:37, “And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.” God, the Father, always testifies of the Son.
If we endeavor to bear witness of the reality of God to an unbelieving world, we must constantly remind ourselves of the witness that already is available to us. This is why we must feed daily on the manna (bread from Heaven) of the Word of God. It does not need to be embellished or exaggerated. It does not need our help. It simply invites us to partner with God, who gave us the testimony of the Apostles who heard Him, and who witnessed then and now, with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will. The Holy Spirit, who indwells every follower of Jesus, is always bearing witness to the glory of God through us.
Read your Bible! Share your faith in Jesus! God will bear witness of His glory!
