As-salaamu Alaykum dear Brothers and Sisters!
As we observe Thanksgiving Day, we extend our warmest duas to all our brothers and sisters. While this is a uniquely American holiday, it gives us a beautiful opportunity to practice gratitude - something deeply embedded in our faith.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "He who does not thank people, does not thank Allah" (Sunan Abi Dawud). Today, as families gather around their tables, let us remember this wisdom and express our gratitude not only to Allah (SWT) but also to our loved ones.
The Qur'an reminds us of the significance of family bonds: "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives..." (4:36). These moments of gathering serve as precious opportunities to strengthen these divinely ordained ties.
As we enjoy the blessings of family gatherings, let us also remember those who cannot be with their loved ones today - whether they are separated by distance, circumstance, or loss. We think especially of those in war-torn regions, refugees, and those facing hardship in our local community. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that the believers are like one body; when one part suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.
May Allah (SWT) ease the suffering of those who are alone or separated from their families today. May He reunite those who are apart and comfort those who grieve. And may He help us to always be grateful for the blessing of family and community. Ameen.
