Fairfax GMC A Global Methodist Church at Greenbriar Community Center that meets Sunday mornings at 0930 am

So the other week a friend of the church was passing though the area and let us know he was going to be stopping by. Pastor Paulo asked this friend if he didn't mind doing the sermon that Sunday. Well our friend, who happens to be the Superintendent of the Global Methodist Church of Virginia, Greg West agreed. He gives a powerful message on Matthew 13:1-11 asking how good is your soil?

Fairfax Global Methodist Church's sermon for 27 July 2026 as given by Pastor Neil Long (Ret).

Remember those old Verizon commercials where the guy asked if you could hear him now. They sought to prove that there was no where you could go that you couldn't be heard. You know, God knows where you are and wants to reach out to you there. Just listen for His soft voice asking "Can You Hear Me Now?"

I am who I am, that is my name, said God. The book of Revelation picked up this theme. “I am the first and the last,” said the Lord God Almighty, “who is, who was, and who is to come” (Revelation 1:8 TEV). Or, as my mother told me when I was a child, “God always was and God always will be.” In Revelation there is another image, that of the faithful having their names written in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 21:27). Don’t you love that thought? Our names are written there. No long numerical codes, no social security numbers. Our names are there, spelled correctly and pronounced lovingly by the one whose name is I AM, the one who knows the name of every far-flung star.
God is like… a name. Not just any name, but the holy name. This God loves us and knows us by name. Thanks be to God. May God’s holy name be praised.

I believe that Augustine was right when he prayed:
“Thou hast made us for thyself, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in thee.”
I believe that we are right to call Jesus the bread of heaven.
I believe that when we come to the Lord’s table, it is our inner hunger that brings us here.
And I believe God is like the bread that satisfies the deepest hunger of our hearts.
I invite you, I urge you, to bring your hunger, your thirst. Know it is Christ who bids you come. And God, in Christ, will not send you away empty.

God’s plan to save the world started before God ever created it. He sealed his promise with a rainbow. Then made good on the promise with a cross. None of us are all we might be. But still Somebody loves us, and He sent His Son to die for us. That’s the Gospel. A Father willing to welcome home a disobedient child. A Father willing to take that child’s place on the cross of Calvary.

David spoke at our church a few months ago, with his powerful message of healing and love. It is a real treat to see him and experience his ministry.

🎤 Workshop Leader Highlight: Rev. Dr. David Ford

We’re honored to welcome Rev. Dr. David Ford as a workshop leader for Annual Conference 2026, where he will be leading a session on Evangelism.

David is an ordained elder in the Global Methodist Church of Virginia and is appointed to serve as an evangelist with Birthmark Ministries. With over 43 years of ministry experience, he has served churches across Florida, Georgia, and Virginia, helped plant new churches, and ministered as a hospital chaplain and youth director.

He has also participated in mission work around the world, including Russia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, and Cuba. David’s passion is to make the Good News of Jesus fully known—by word, deed, and the power of the Holy Spirit—raising up fully devoted disciples of Christ.

David holds degrees from Palm Beach Atlantic College, Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and Asbury Theological Seminary. He and his wife Mary Lou have been married for 43 years and are blessed with three children and ten grandchildren.

We’re excited for the wisdom, experience, and passion he’ll bring as we gather together.
