Suitcase to Heaven is an inspirational book for those struggling That’s the scenery driving back home.

SNOW ROADS, SNOW BUILDINGS, SNOW TREES is my world covered with snow. There’s no echo since the snow housed all the sounds inside each snow flake. I hear nothing-stillness…
I feel silence…
I see “nothing” in front of me, but a world of white. But when I look at the sky something magical takes place. The night is covered with colors. It’s the green sky, dancing with blues and shades of yellows and reds from the dome of the Northern Lights in my home at the Alaskan winter nights. The sight of multiple colors brings my memories back, far away in time…
Bright colors I used to see everywhere at the streets of the tropical Brazilian life. I felt small- so small, as my mom held my tiny ten year old hand. One the other hand, my child size surf board I carried to Ipanema beach. Mom would take me to the sand- hot burning sand on my bare foot toes I would feel…
The waves, my tiny ears would hear breaking on the shore. The air- thick and warm-so hard to breathe…
Hot my skin would feel, but soon, I would surf the waves and cooler I would become. The waters of the beach would make me tumble around and about once I would fall down from my little surf board. I would gasp for air, for my breath under water- too long would be held. Sun down, my mom would once again hold my smallish hand. Now with flip-flops we would walk on the streets of Rio de Janeiro towards home. On our walk I would spot a “banca de jornal.” Books, magazines, and newspapers of all sorts the “banca” would sell. Mom, I thought, loved to read…I would save my money for three, or perhaps four or five months. Then, on another walk, I would buy her a book, or two, or sometimes four. She would smile, so happy, and inside, I would smile twice as much, for happy I would feel that her heart was -so warm. But now, I’m here, not in the Tropical, but the Arctic, so far from my ten year old days, where I walked barefooted on the sandy beach of the colorful Ipanema beach. Life took me around, a turn or two, and even more than I could ever know…
My mind, here again it is, on the white, so very white snow. A package my mom opened today. In it, “Suitcase to Heaven”- a new book! Filled with emotions mom cried of joy: a tear here, then another one or two. This time, it was not a book from a stranger, or a “banca de jornal,” but a book I, Emilia, wrote. Orchestrated life is, by the God who makes the plans unfold. Oh, how creative and marvelous are His plans! Nothing wasted, nothing coincidental, nothing for not, but all for beauty, all for all! Placing my hands in His Hands, and through life, beauty He created. Would you place your hands in His Hands, and let Him color your life with the beauty of the Northern Lights?

A life well lived to the end is a life of continual self-examination. Without it, one might fall into an abyss without noticing. One might become a beast without self-awareness. One might get lost in the labyrinth of desires without perception. Self-examination is the lamp that illuminates the path, revealing both our dangers and our possibilities.

To live in solitude is to dwell in the quiet presence of God, where prayer becomes the foundation of the soul. It is to withdraw from the noise of the world and enter an intimate communion with the Divine, where silence becomes prayer, solitude becomes companionship, and the heart slowly learns to rest in God.

The Three Homes We Live In
Most people believe they have only one home. It is the place where they return at the end of the day, the house or apartment where they sleep, eat, and live with their families. They leave it in the morning to go to work and return to it in the evening. For some, this earthly home is a place of comfort, love, and safety. They come home to a loving spouse, caring children, and a sense of belonging. For others, the home they return to is filled with conflict, loneliness, fear, or even abuse. Some people live in difficult circumstances both inside and outside their homes, carrying burdens wherever they go.
Yet the truth is that we do not live in only one home. We live in three.
The first and most important home is the home of the soul. This is the deepest dwelling place within us. It is the place where we encounter God, where love, faith, hope, and meaning reside. Many people spend their lives searching for happiness in the world around them while neglecting this inner sanctuary. Some never discover its doorway. Yet when the soul is rooted in God, it possesses a peace that circumstances cannot easily destroy. Trials may come. Sorrows may arrive uninvited. Loss, illness, disappointment, and grief may visit us. But when the soul is at home with God, a person can remain steady even in the midst of life's storms.
The second home is the home of the mind. This is where our thoughts live. It is the place of our emotions, intentions, memories, dreams, fears, and desires. In many ways, this is where the greatest battles of life are fought. A person may live in a beautiful house and appear successful to the outside world, yet if the mind is constantly filled with anxiety, resentment, envy, bitterness, anger, or schemes to harm others, that person lives in turmoil. A troubled mind becomes a troubled home. On the other hand, a mind filled with gratitude, compassion, forgiveness, and peace becomes a refuge. The quality of our thoughts shapes the quality of our lives. We carry the home of our mind with us wherever we go.
The third home is the earthly home, the visible dwelling made of walls, doors, windows, and roofs. It is the place where families gather, meals are shared, and daily life unfolds. This home matters. We spend much of our time caring for it, improving it, and protecting it. Yet it is not the only home we inhabit. A beautiful house cannot compensate for a broken spirit, nor can wealth and comfort guarantee peace. Likewise, a modest house can become a place of warmth and joy when those who live within it possess peaceful minds and souls anchored in faith.
Perhaps we spend too much time thinking about the third home and too little time tending to the first two. The home of the soul and the home of the mind are invisible, yet they influence every aspect of our lives. They shape our relationships, our health, our decisions, and our ability to endure hardship. If the soul is disconnected from God and the mind is consumed by conflict, no earthly house can truly feel like home. But when the soul rests in God's love and the mind dwells in peace, even life's difficulties become easier to bear.
In the end, we each live in three homes. The first is the home of the soul, where we find God and the deepest meaning of our existence. The second is the home of the mind, where our thoughts create either peace or conflict. The third is the earthly home, where our daily lives unfold among family and friends. Of these three homes, the visible one is often the least important. For when the soul is at peace with God and the mind is at peace within itself, the earthly home becomes not merely a shelter, but a reflection of the harmony that already exists within.

Let us do something different this Christmas. Instead of focusing on the stress of the holidays; buying so many presents and gifts; going to stores; trying to wrap many presents; and eating so much; let us go outside and be in nature. Let us gather our families; take a walk in the snow; and thank God for everything that He is; and for the birth of Jesus; who lived an exemplary life and showed us a template for how we should live.

Yesterday I was asked this question; what do you think a good man is? A good man can be many things. To some people; a good man is someone with many degrees. To others; a good man is someone with a lot of money; or someone who pays for a woman’s things.

But a good man; to me; is a man who follows Jesus; who has a heart that desires to walk in His footsteps. Not necessarily what society calls him to do; but what Jesus calls him to do. The same goes for women; we should be following Jesus’ footsteps in all that we do.

The true reason for Christmas is to focus on Jesus; not on ourselves; and not on exchanging presents with one another. Let us give our gift to God; by following Him in everything we do.

Luke 2:10-11 – “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’”
– A perfect reminder that Christmas is about Jesus’ birth and the joy He brings.

This is one of the most beautiful palaces in Munich, Germany that I have ever visited, the Nymphenburg Palace. Inside, there is the famous Gallery of Beauties created by King Ludwig I, where women were portrayed solely for their outward appearance. Noblewomen, middle-class girls, and even the daughter of a shoemaker were chosen to be painted, not because of their character, but because of how they looked. The gallery is visually stunning, and it’s hard not to admire its beauty, yet it reflects a deeper truth about that era: women were judged by their outward appearance rather than by the God-given worth within them.

In those days, women lived under strict expectations;rigid rules of conduct, limited freedom, and constant supervision. Their privacy was small, their independence almost nonexistent. Servant women endured long hours, hard labor, low pay, and almost no protection. Many were vulnerable to mistreatment from higher-ranking men, with little power to defend themselves. They had no political voice, no legal independence, and very limited access to education. Society often viewed them as ornaments, helpers, or tools for political advantage, instead of seeing them as individuals created by God with purpose and dignity.

The palace stands as a reminder of how deeply inequality was woven into society. And sadly, this same mindset still persists in many places today, where women are undervalued, unseen, or used instead of honored.

But the Bible tells us something very different. Scripture teaches that men and women are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and that beauty is found not in outward appearance, but in the hidden person of the heart (1 Peter 3:3–4). God calls us to treat every person with love, respect, and dignity.

Women were created by God with compassion, strength, wisdom, and a nurturing spirit; gifts meant to bless this world. We are called “helpers” not in weakness, but in the same sense that God Himself is called our Helper (Psalm 54:4). That is a title of partnership and divine purpose.

Women are not objects to be used; they are reflections of God’s heart, bearers of wisdom, and carriers of His love. When society recognizes this truth, it becomes more just, more compassionate, and more aligned with God’s design.

The Sacred Moment — God in the Now

The interesting thing about us humans
is how easily we drift.
Our hearts wander to the past,
chasing shadows of what we should have done.
Then they leap toward the future,
toward what we want, desire, or covet.

Yet how slowly we walk through the present,
how seldom we breathe the air of now,
how rarely we stay in step
with what God is doing in this very heartbeat.

We forget that holiness often hides
in the smallest gifts.
The sight of a leaf trembling in the wind,
the gentle gold of a sunset,
the sweetness of fruit upon the tongue,
the quiet laughter of someone we love.

We hurry, we chase, we reach,
but God whispers,
I am here.
And when we forget that,
unhappiness comes not from true suffering,
but from wanting what is not ours yet.

If only we stopped reaching for what we lack,
and instead lifted our eyes
to the blessings already placed before us,
how thankful we would be.

Gratitude opens heaven’s window.
Joy blooms in the heart that rests.
And the soul that walks with God in the present
needs nothing more.

Because the moment we stand still with Him,
we find that He Himself
is our fulfillment.

Finding God Beyond Walls
by Emilia En L’air

Sometimes we think we need to go to a church to find God — to a denomination, or to certain people of God, like pastors, preachers, or priests. But in truth, we can go directly to Him. The Bible says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” We can enter any building in the world, but if we don’t open our hearts to God, if we don’t follow Him, then all is in vain. And if love is not in our hearts, even our works are in vain, as Scripture reminds us.

When I stood inside St. Peter’s Church (Peterskirche) in Munich, Germany — the city’s oldest parish church, standing since the 12th century — I felt the weight of centuries of faith. The church has survived fires, wars, and generations of change. Its Baroque and Rococo splendor, golden altars, and painted ceilings tell stories of devotion through the ages. From its tower, called Alter Peter (“Old Peter”), you can see the whole of Munich — the rooftops, the Alps in the distance, and the steady heart of a city that has prayed here for nearly 900 years.

Yet as beautiful and sacred as this place is, it reminded me that God is not confined to these walls. The stones may hold history, but the living presence of God dwells in the hearts of those who love Him.

Let us draw near to God and to Jesus, for He alone suffices our souls. He is our living water — and when we drink from His cup, we shall never thirst again.

I walk in circles. Circles around my room, circles around a spruce tree, circles around the island I call home. “Why not walk straight?” someone asks. “Will you not get where you want to go faster?”

“No,” I respond. The Earth moves in a circle. The planet is a circle. I’m not in a hurry. Tomorrow will arrive when it does.

I’m in a circle, walking in the presence of the Divine. I move in little circles, being present and grateful for the now—the moment that is solid and real. In my circles, I feel and sense the here and now, for I cannot appreciate tomorrow’s sun or face tomorrow’s rain if I do not first learn that God is in my moment of the now.

The seconds of the planet beat in rhythm with the calm beatings of my heart. I walk in circles. One step, two steps, three steps. I am here. I am now. I am blessed to be. No hurry—just God and me. I have no need to arrive. I am already in the right place: the place of peace, the place of love, the place of God, the Divine.

I cuddle inside my warm blanket and stare at the window, letting the world outside come to me. I wake with the Spruce trees, breathing with their quiet rhythm. Some say the spruce trees are the same every day, but I see it differently. I notice their subtle transformations—the way a branch bends under the weight of a raindrop, the way the light shifts through their needles.

Every day, they whisper a new story, offer fresh wisdom. From their steadfast patience and gentle movements, I learn what God is speaking to me. In their quiet resilience, I feel His guidance. In the way they endure storms yet remain rooted, I find courage for my own journey.

Once again, we stand at the threshold of change, where one season gives way to another. Summer yields to autumn—not by the turning of a page on the calendar, but by the quiet decree of God. His hand stirs the winds, sends the storms, and sets the trees to trembling. In every gust, in every rustle, He is dancing.

Leaves sway and whisper. Some let go, drifting to the earth. Others cling a little longer, as if reluctant to leave the branch. The sky grows dim though it is morning, the grayness folding daylight into dusk.

Many see such days as heavy, as though the rain were sorrow. But I see them as a gift. For when the old falls away, the new is not far behind. The end of a season is not just an ending—it is the closing of a lesson, and the beginning of another.

I'm not afraid of rain, and I walk among the trembling trees. The rain kisses my face, each drop a gentle reminder that life is always moving, always renewing. The scent of wet earth rises, rich and grounding, carrying whispers of what has been and promises of what is yet to come.

I notice the small miracles in the subtle details—the way a leaf glistens with a bead of water, the way the wind bends a branch without breaking it, the way clouds shift slowly, revealing glimpses of light. It is in these quiet, fleeting moments that I feel God most vividly, speaking not in thunder, but in the soft insistence of change.

And I remember: endings are never final. Each fallen leaf nourishes the soil, each storm clears the air, each gray sky makes the sun’s return more brilliant. So I breathe deeply, letting the rhythm of the season settle into me. I welcome what is ending, I anticipate what is beginning, and I give thanks for the steady, unseen hand that guides it all.

Thank you, Lord, for another new season. Welcome Autumn! May I learn from you.
