United Campus Ministry Fairbanks

United Campus Ministry Fairbanks United Campus Ministry has been recognized at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ since 1961. Our goal is to encourage the students in their walk with God.

We believe this growth will take through worship, friendship, teaching, and service to others. United Campus Ministry has been recognized on the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ campus since 1961. UCM is primarily supported by the United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches as well as many private donors. Our students, however, come from many different faith backgrounds. Some of the activities we offer include a mid-week worship service, Bible study, weekend social events, leadership training, community service projects, finals care packages, and informal counseling. It is our earnest hope that students will grow in their knowledge and love of God while learning to put the gospel of Jesus Christ into action. It is our goal to find common ground, and we have discovered that there is much on which to build our relationships with each other and with Jesus Christ. The Demise of United Campus Ministry (UCM)

Since the retirement of David Moore, UCM has had difficulties continuing in its mission caused by the lack of a director. We advertised on Indeed and received 6 very good applications, but mostly due to our inability to pay a good full-time salary, none of these applicants agreed to come to Fairbanks to fill our vacancy. For a few months we were able to sign up a part-time director living locally in Fairbanks but he found this too much impact in his life when combined with his other job. In the last two years, Charles Maillander has served as UCM director during winter and spring semesters but has been unable to continue since September last year. It is now clear that our ability to fulfill our mission is so weak that we should close down. Therefore our email and website should be closed and other matters required by our byelaws will be executed.

This will be my final year at United Campus Ministry. As they say, “all good things must come to an end. ” It has been a wonderful run with amazing students, generous donors and tons of adventure. I will remember the times we laughed together, the times you gathered at our home and the times we traveled together and the time we were stuck together. We worshiped loud in praise, took time for quiet reflection and prayed for each other. I can’t thank you enough for all the memories.
The UCM board is looking to hire a new Director this spring, they will start in August for the fall semester. This is a part time job, roughly 24 hours a week. If you or someone you know is interested you can contact us here or email me at [email protected].

For the last zillion years that David’s been Director of United Campus Ministry we’ve had students with us all of Thanksgiving Day cooking and eating and playing. Not so this year! So today we delivered a pizza from House of Fire Pizza to each of these students that is in town. 😊 Well, one of my residents recently moved to Anchorage and we miss her terribly. She’s also loved on these college kids for several years. So...one of the students is in Anchorage to be with her parents for Thanksgiving. We ordered the pizza, she delivered it our resident with lots of love. Goes down in the books as another great UCM Thanksgiving!

United Campus Ministry is looking forward to welcoming you to campus! UAF classes begin August 26, and our first gathering will be Wednesday Worship on August 28. We meet (downstairs) in Brooks 103 at 7:30pm. In September we will get together for Dinner & Bible Study, cleaning cars at Raven Landing Retirement Community & working at the Food Bank.
