The Congregational Church of Excelsior

The Congregational Church of Excelsior Join us Sunday mornings at 10:00 in-person or online. VALUE OTHERS: Value each other as God values us.

With each gathering, we strive to blend and bridge the traditional with the contemporary, exploring the Scriptures and discerning their relevance and significance in our everyday lives. LISTEN: Listen carefully to others, being open and respectful of their point of view. THINK UNITY: Realize that our unity in Christ is much greater than any differences we have. BE POSITIVE: Think about and address church issues in a positive way. FORGIVE: Forgive one another and ourselves as God forgives us.

Please join us at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 10. From Pastor Jonathan, "We’ll look closely at Jesus’ words at the beginning of John’s 14th chapter. He talks about the many rooms in God’s house, preparing a place there, and (maybe?) how we get in. Ooof. These words can be alarming or assuring! We’ll examine this and hopefully end in a peaceful place. The choir will lead music. Celebrate Mother’s Day here!"

**UPDATE: Church service on Sunday, March 15, 2026, is cancelled due to the weather. Stay safe!**

From Pastor Jonathan: "This weekend's forecast looks ominous! Check your email Sunday morning in case we have to cancel worship.
If the storm holds off and we do gather [at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 15], we'll be joined by the Roe Family Singers and look at John 9:1-41. It's a fast paced story where Jesus performs an unsanctioned, perplexing miracle that leaves everyone scrambling to explain and accuse. Like us, the man who is healed doesn't understand God. His theology is simple, profound: "One thing I do know," he says, "I was blind; now I see." We all sing about that feeling too, because we can't explain it either. It's called amazing grace.
I hope to see you Sunday!"

A few reminders:
⛪️ From Missions:
Some recent gifts our church has given:
Christmas Eve Offering - More than $1,880 was given, which when matched with Missions funds will provide close to $4,000 to help the recently arrived Liberian family of five with housing expenses. ICA - The Moms group took in $1,236.78 at their holiday bake sale, which when matched by Missions funds, resulted in a $2,473.56 to ICA. The Tree House kids received $630 worth of gift cards at their Christmas party thanks to your donations. A local family of four received Christmas gifts purchased with Missions funds through Holiday Family Giving, a program coordinated by Minnetonka Community Education. CCoE donated $2,250 to the UCC-wide Christmas Fund, which helps retired clergy/staff. Finally, our Mitten Tree was heavy laden with warmth. We have given Sharing and Caring Hands (Mary’s Place) 103 hats, 28 scarves, 27 pairs of gloves/mittens, and 3 pairs of boots — many lovingly home-made!
⛪️ From Church Council:
The next council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13. All are welcome!
Four new council members will be elected at the 2026 annual meeting. Councilors oversee the pursuit of the mission and the management of the business and spiritual life of the church. Reach out to Pastor Jonathan Holtmeier and Moderator John DePaolis by Jan. 12 if you are interested in serving.
