The Congregational Church of Excelsior

The Congregational Church of Excelsior Join us Sunday mornings at 10:00 in-person or online. VALUE OTHERS: Value each other as God values us.

With each gathering, we strive to blend and bridge the traditional with the contemporary, exploring the Scriptures and discerning their relevance and significance in our everyday lives. LISTEN: Listen carefully to others, being open and respectful of their point of view. THINK UNITY: Realize that our unity in Christ is much greater than any differences we have. BE POSITIVE: Think about and address church issues in a positive way. FORGIVE: Forgive one another and ourselves as God forgives us.

Please join us for worship at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 29.
From Pastor Jonathan: "Sunday will be a big day. We'll remember the last week of Jesus' life and string quartet Artaria will lead our music. At the end of the service we'll all sing "Were You There?" ... After worship there will be fellowship and Ukrainian egg decorating.
Bring some non-perishable food items for ICA and come to church! It'll make what happens the next week really matter..."

All are welcome to join us in-person and online for a time of worship and music. Our services blend a traditional format with a pastoral message that relates Biblical wisdom to contemporary life. Open Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month.

**UPDATE: Church service on Sunday, March 15, 2026, is cancelled due to the weather. Stay safe!**

From Pastor Jonathan: "This weekend's forecast looks ominous! Check your email Sunday morning in case we have to cancel worship.
If the storm holds off and we do gather [at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 15], we'll be joined by the Roe Family Singers and look at John 9:1-41. It's a fast paced story where Jesus performs an unsanctioned, perplexing miracle that leaves everyone scrambling to explain and accuse. Like us, the man who is healed doesn't understand God. His theology is simple, profound: "One thing I do know," he says, "I was blind; now I see." We all sing about that feeling too, because we can't explain it either. It's called amazing grace.
I hope to see you Sunday!"

A few reminders:
⛪️ From Missions:
Some recent gifts our church has given:
Christmas Eve Offering - More than $1,880 was given, which when matched with Missions funds will provide close to $4,000 to help the recently arrived Liberian family of five with housing expenses. ICA - The Moms group took in $1,236.78 at their holiday bake sale, which when matched by Missions funds, resulted in a $2,473.56 to ICA. The Tree House kids received $630 worth of gift cards at their Christmas party thanks to your donations. A local family of four received Christmas gifts purchased with Missions funds through Holiday Family Giving, a program coordinated by Minnetonka Community Education. CCoE donated $2,250 to the UCC-wide Christmas Fund, which helps retired clergy/staff. Finally, our Mitten Tree was heavy laden with warmth. We have given Sharing and Caring Hands (Mary’s Place) 103 hats, 28 scarves, 27 pairs of gloves/mittens, and 3 pairs of boots — many lovingly home-made!
⛪️ From Church Council:
The next council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13. All are welcome!
Four new council members will be elected at the 2026 annual meeting. Councilors oversee the pursuit of the mission and the management of the business and spiritual life of the church. Reach out to Pastor Jonathan Holtmeier and Moderator John DePaolis by Jan. 12 if you are interested in serving.

A few reminders:
ICA Food Shelf donations: Please reach out to local families in need during these especially difficult days of food insecurity for so many by making a generous donation to ICA this holiday season. This wonderful organization will be providing turkeys and all the accompaniments to over 1,000 families this month ($25 covers one family), and the clients visiting the food shelf to help feed their families day to day has grown beyond anything expected. As always, you can make a check to the church, noting ICA in the memo line. Also, and this is NEW!, you can now give through the QR code in your bulletin or the "Give" button on our website. Just choose the Missions code and direct your donation to ICA. Easy!

Noisy Offering: November has five Sundays, so you guessed it: We'll have a Noisy Offering on the 30th. Start filling up your change jar to donate on Nov. 30!

Tree House Gift Cards: Our church has a wonderful tradition of giving $10 Target Gift Cards to stuff in the kids' Christmas stockings with a little greeting. You can buy the cards yourself and give to Marty Swain, drop a check in the collection plate with "Tree House" noted in the memo line, OR donate through the QR code in your bulletin or the "Give" button on our website. Just choose the Missions code and direct your donation to Tree House. Many thanks!
