Good morning

If you consider me a believer in the Lord, she said, come and stay at my house.
Acts 16:15
Lydia knew how to open the door of her home to others. Her insistence to Paul and his companions showed that she was someone who understood hospitality. An echo from Luke 10:5-9shows up here: when you find a person of peace (someone who is open to God’s love and the work of his kingdom) stay there, hang out, and work together. When we do that, the kingdom of God comes near. When we emulate the posture and actions of Jesus, we lean into what it means to share together the good news of life with him. What does hospitality look like to you? Are you a door opener? Are you ready to share the good news with someone who is looking for a way to spread the story to others?
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for each person you bring into our lives to engage with. Thank you for the opportunity to share your story. In Jesus Name Amen.
Have a blessed day

Good morning

Jesus replied, Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again. John 3:3

One of the key images Jesus teaches is that all who believe in him have new life. Faith in Jesus is not an add on to our lives or an accessory we can just pay attention to once in a while. Our faith in Jesus is meant to transform our entire being so that we are changed and become newly born, newly created.
Nicodemus came to Jesus with questions. And Jesus used the image of being born again to help Nicodemus understand how radically we must change to become his followers. Jesus said that the only ones who can experience the kingdom and understand his teaching are those who are born again. To explain further, he said we need to be born of water and the Spirit. This is likely a reference to baptism and the gift of the Holy Spirit, which people receive when they become believers in Christ.
Today we might associate the idea of being born again with a dramatic conversion story. But rebirth in Christ is not a one-time event; discipleship involves a continuous dying and rising with Christ. As we grow in faith, Jesus cleanses us from sin and reshapes us in his own image. Again and again, we must allow him to reshape our priorities, change our attitudes, and empower us for service.
In what ways has the Lord reshaped you lately?

Prayer:
Lord, continue to show us how we must be born again. Show us the parts of ourselves that need to be cleansed and changed, and make us new in your perfect image. In Jesus Name Amen.
Have a blessed day

Good morning
They left the mountains of Abarim and camped on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. Numbers 33:48

Numbers 33 is like a map. It traces the 40 year wilderness journey of Israel from Egypt to the plains of Moab.
What can we learn from a chapter like this? It reminds us that Israel never settled during the 40 years. They were always on the move. They went from one place to another. They lived in tents that could be set up and taken down. Only one place was home: Canaan, the land God had promised them.
In some ways this is what life is to be like for God’s people today. This world, as it is now, is not our home. As Christians, we know that when we die, our souls will live with the Lord in heaven and then, when he returns, we will live with him in the new heaven and earth. So while we care for the earth God has given us to live on, we do not hold tightly to the things of this world. We don’t have to look far to see that this world and its ways are broken. Many good things remain, but this is not our permanent home. That can only be with God, the Lord of our lives.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may the joys of life in your presence be our joy. Help us to share our hope with others around us In Jesus Name Amen.
Have a blessed day

Good morning
When a man makes a vow to the Lord he must not break his word.
Numbers 30:2
When a witness is ready to testify in court, they raise their hand and say, I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So help me God. The witness is calling God to be a witness to the truth of the testimony.
The basic principle taught in Numbers 30 is that vows must be kept. Our word must stand. Truth telling is an essential characteristic of Christians. Twisting the truth or telling lies has no place among us. The reason for this is that we’re called to reflect God. God is not human, that he should lie, nor a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? Numbers 23:19. When our word can’t be trusted, we look like the devil, the father of lies John 8:44.
Jesus asserted the importance of truth telling when he said, All you need to say is simply Yes or No; anything beyond this comes from the evil one Matthew 5:37. He was saying that we should be so marked by the truth that we should not need a vow to back up our word. Sometimes a vow will be required of us. But let’s have our word be enough. May our word be consistent with our actions.

Prayer:
Father, the temptation to lie or twist the truth is strong. Help us to be people of our word so that we reflect you. Amen.

Have a blessed day

Good Morning

Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Numbers 27:4

The way inheritances worked in ancient Israel was that your name, heritage, and place among God’s people passed down through your sons. As long as you had a son, your name would carry on to the next generation. Your place or property in the land would also be secure.
The daughters of Zelophehad approached Moses and said, Our father died in the wilderness and left no sons. Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? It was a courageous request by these young women. What they were asking for was property in the promised land as an inheritance so that their father’s name would be maintained and they would be counted among God’s people. It was a request made from bold faith. They believed that God would give them the promised land, and they wanted their place in it.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for working in the lives of our young people. May they be shining examples of love for you. In Jesus name Amen.

Have a blessed weekend

Good morning

Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped. Numbers 9:17

In the wilderness, Israel followed the Lord, their leader. A cloud that represented God’s presence settled on the tabernacle. God came in this cloud to be with his people. By day it looked like a cloud, probably like thick fog or smoke. And at night it looked like fire. When the cloud moved, Israel moved. When the cloud settled, Israel camped. The Israelites were not supposed to go in front of the cloud. They were not to move on when the cloud stood still. All they needed to do was follow. This passage shows that they learned to do that.
Following God through the wilderness of life is our task too. It takes faith and trust. Often we’d like to run ahead of God into our future. Sometimes we might not like where the Lord is leading, so following him can be frightening. But the God who leads us is the God who is with us and for us. He is the faithful God (Deuteronomy 7:9).
Will you follow him?
Prayer:
Jesus, you called your disciples to leave their old lives behind and follow you. May we be your faithful followers too. For your sake, Amen.
Have a blessed day

Good morning

He became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. Hebrews 5:9

People are constantly searching for peace and happiness in their life. Whether they know it or not, they are searching for fulfillment and the meaning of life. They are searching to fill an emptiness in their life, even if they are not able to recognize that.
As Christians, we have been given the greatest of all gifts: eternal salvation. This gift is provided to us through the finished work of Jesus Christ. As we have learned, he is the great High Priest appointed to represent us and to mediate for us before God the Father. And in order to do that, he had to suffer, providing the sacrifice for our sin. Being proved perfect through his suffering for us, taking it on willingly in his obedience for our sake, he became the source of eternal salvation.
We know where we can find our salvation. It is not in ourselves or anything that this world can offer. Our source of eternal salvation is in Jesus alone.
Having found the source of salvation, we are called to live obediently in gratitude for all he has done. We do not earn our salvation by being obedient; our obedience is an outpouring of gratitude for his suffering for our sake.
In Jesus we have the source of eternal salvation. We no longer need to search for true peace because we have found it in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank you for your suffering. In your obedient, willing sacrifice for our sake, you are proven to be the perfect source of eternal salvation. Thank you. Amen.

Have a blessed day

Good morning
He began to send them out two by two.
Mark 6:7
Our goal is to learn how to love people the way Jesus called us to, so we take every opportunity we can to practice love.
This means interacting with immigrants, refugees, homeless people, and other marginalized folks in our community. It means sharing God’s love with people in our church community in out-of-the-box ways.
When Jesus sent out his disciples, I think he had some of the same thoughts in mind. He sent them out together to do difficult things. He sent them out to preach and to heal. I’m sure they were apprehensive at first. But when they came back, they had amazing stories to tell of God’s power displayed in their world.
Community does that together. It goes and does difficult things together all the time witnessing the amazing work of God in the world around us.
Prayer:
Father, send us into the world together, in your name, to love people and to witness your power at work through changing lives. Amen.
Have a blessed day

Good Morning
Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?
John 21:15

Peter had denied being a follower of Jesus (see John 18). Even though he had told Jesus he would stick by him until the end, Peter didn’t. The shame, anger, guilt, and pain must have torn Peter up inside. Jesus knew that. But Jesus also knew who Peter was and would be. The rusty and broken parts of Peter weren’t the person he would become. So Jesus restored Peter. He took away Peter’s shame and guilt and made Peter a leader in his kingdom.
We all have scratches and dents from our lives some from our own doing. But Jesus sees through all that and focuses on the person we are created to be. In community we also do that for each other. We see past old mistakes, and we accept each other for the people we are created to be. In community, restoration happens all the time.
Prayer:
Father, thank you for restoring us. Help us see others as you would have us see them fully restored. In Name JesusAmen.
Have a safe and blessed weekend

Good Morning
If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you.
Matthew 18:15

Our text from Matthew 18 has been a foundational principle for dealing with conflict. If you have a problem with someone, go and talk to them about it first before including other people. It seems pretty basic. But it is also a foundational principle in community. Making a public complaint or using gossip or backstabbing will bring about mistrust and break community. On the other hand, directly addressing issues in a spirit of godly wisdom and love is a positive way of dealing with conflict.
Conflicts will arise. Managing them directly and in a timely way is an important part of community. Is there anyone with whom you need to discuss a conflict? Dealing with that has the potential to make your community even stronger.

Prayer:
Father, help us deal with conflicts wisely, and bring us into stronger relationships as a result. Amen.

Have a blessed day

Good morning
Make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.
Philippians 2:2

When Paul addresses the Philippians, he encourages them to be like minded, to have the same love, and to be one. Having similarities, especially those founded on Christ, can bring us together in Christian community. It gives us bonds that are not easily broken and that can grow into other things. And, when differences arise, the like minded love that we have established can keep us connected to each other.
If you are looking for a community to be a part of, begin with things that you like to do, and build from there. Find other believers who play basketball or knit or love to read. Begin with those bonds and allow the connections to spread to conversations about God, faith, and life.

Prayer:
Father, help us find people to connect with, and help us grow in understanding your love for us. Amen.
Have a blessed day
