Focus

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Colossians 3:2 (KJV)

"This verse points to a need for focused Christian living. It's easy to get distracted by responsibilities, entertainment, and all the noise around us. We have to refocus our lives so we can invest in what truly matters. What matters most? We answer that question by letting the Bible's teachings and the Holy Spirit guide us. Paul wrote this epistle t o the church at Colossae. It calls believers to choose where they focus their hearts and minds deliberately. You might wonder why Paul uses the word “Things Above.” It refers to heavenly, eternal realities: God's character, spiritual truth, and Christ's reign at God's right hand. Things on earth relate to temporary, material, or sinful pursuits that pull attention away from God. Paul is, by far, reminding the church that such pursuits cannot exist in the minds, lives, and character of the saints.
Stay FOCUS!

Conquer Evil

"Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." (Romans 12:21) KJV

"How can evil conquer us? It begins in our mind. Anger has a way of stewing inside, only to finally erupt. Quick judgments of others begin as a seed in our thoughts that grows into distaste for another. Envy and jealousy begin in the mind as well. This passage tells us the key to overcoming evil is by doing good. Doing good comes from a thought, but is acted on. If you feel your thoughts becoming critical, angry, or envious, stop them by responding with a loving action. You can conquer everything with good. So we are admonished and instructed as believers not to respond to hostility with retaliation, but with active, persistent kindness and by all means with the truth. Conquer Evil with truth and defeat evil, for the scripture denotes, and it is written that Satan is the author of lies; he’s the original liar.
