Today we celebrate Administrators day! James Powell goes above and beyond his true duties at our church. He pours his heart and soul into our church. We want to celebrate James today as we honor him!! Thank you for all you do!

It was the last Wednesday night service of 1971. I was only 17, but I still remember Pastor Joe Allen Luker preached his last sermon in the little church on Pecan Street in Evergreen, Alabama where the people of what was then First Assembly of God worshipped. Brother Luker preached from Psalm 121 as if it was his farewell address. The church was in a building project. We were building a new place of worship on the corner of Perryman Street and Pinecrest across from Brooks Memorial Stadium. On Friday morning, December 31, 1971 while Brother Luker, my dad Mack Williams and others were working in the unfinished sanctuary, Brother Luker sat down on the edge of the platform, had a heart attack and went to heaven at the age of 54. My dad rushed him to Evergreen Hospital Emergency Room and attempts were made to revive him, but by that time he had made his entry to home. The Lord was our keeper. Brother James Wellborn stepped in as pastor and the building continued. The new property was dedicated in the Spring of 1972.
