Just because our church is closed and I’m retired does that mean I ever stop learning. I came across something that I think is rather important and would like to share with you.

The word Golgatha Means the place of the skull. The question is what skull? There are two places in Jerusalem that are pointed to as the place of the skull. One still stands and you can plainly see what looks like the outline of a skull in that hill there was a man that in the 1800s marked that as the price of the crucifixion. However, he and all others before him and many after him… Which I have to include myself in this… Did not have the complete story I now have to count myself as one of those. When Constantine became a Christian, his mother went to Jerusalem to establish where things happen and this is what she found… The church of the holy ser marks, both the crucifixion and the empty tomb site.

So Pastor… What happened to the skull?

That’s where the early church fathers come in. It was told to Constatine‘s mother by those who were made in Jerusalem that Jesus was crucified at the place of a skull, but a very particular skull: Adams skull. Adam was buried on the same hill, where Jesus was crucified..

When Jesus died, and the rocks split in two, the blood of the second Adam-Jesus—covered the skull of the first Adam, and in so doing, covered humanity’s sins.

I don’t know where you find yourself today… If you feel hopeless, read what I wrote again. Jesus covered all senses of all people for all time. Yes my friend that means you believe Richard send I forgiven. God bless you as you wake tomorrow morning to the newness of life at Easter when he is risen and will never die again.

So why did Grace Lutheran Church in Everett close? Maybe this will clarify it. There was a recent survey by American Culture and Faith Institute that was performed. They asked how many churches actually believed the basic foundations of the Bible. 70% said they did NOT believe them. That left 100,000 churches in America. 98% said they believed the foundations of the Scripture but were afraid they might offend others and would not teach them. Only 2% of churches would preach them no matter what the consequences. That 2% is about 2,000 churches.

Grace did not close because of low attendance or lack of financial support. These were the symptoms of a greater problem, namely the rejection of the message of the Gospel and God’s truth in Everett and in Snohomish County—the hardest ground in America to see the Gospel take root in hearts and lives. Attendance and offerings are symptoms of a greater problem! We preached the Gospel. It was made widely available because of COVID. Yet even a national crisis and pandemic would not break the rock-hard hearts in Snohomish County.

Don’t misunderstand me here. There are wonderful people in Everett and Snohomish County. As the Scripture says, “they did not all believe.” That is why Grace closed.

There are times when you do ministry that go unnoticed by many. You receive no response from the people you are ministering to--until out of the blue, a Christmas card arrives--with a letter addressed to you. That letter has made ministry worth it! I've always wondered, "Lord, am I making a difference anywhere--with anyone?" That letter gave a resounding "Yes!" to that question! I will treasure that the rest of my life. Thank you, Lord, for a resounding answer to the question I have asked every day!

As I looked at our page, it defined us as a "religious organization." I have a problem with that. Grace Lutheran Church is NOT here to promote a religion. If it was, we should close shop now. Since 2009, the average number of people who are active Christians has dropped from 50% to 25%. In this area, it means that the average number of practicing Christians--those who have a relationship with Jesus--is 16%.

Why?

Part of it has to do with "the greatest generation." They are leaving this world--and their church--behind for heaven.

Part of it is the "boomer" generation was the last generation to claim a relationship with Jesus in large numbers. Yet the "boomers" are also departing this vale of tears for their eternal reward promised to them by Jesus. Every successive generation since the boomer generation, the number of people who have a relationship with Jesus has declined.

We may be defined as a religious organization, but the fact is we are a RELATIONSHIP organization. Those relationships go up--to God--and out--to one another.

I believe we are the most unique church in Washington State. We are the only one I can find that meets in a basement. We are international, and have welcomed all races and people from close by and far away to develop their relationship with Jesus here. Yes, we have worship services--that's what Christians do! We ascribe to God the honor and glory He is due! Yet it is not just about worship here. It is about fellowship--caring for one another; it is about reaching out with the love of Jesus to those who do not know Him; it is finding ways to care for our fellow man.

If you do not know Jesus, or have a strong relationship with Him, we invite you to "The Basement," to meet Him, and see His love for you!

Do you know this man? He is supposedly
known by many. Yet when I ask if someone
knows him, they will say they know about him
because of something they heard in Sunday
School or a church long ago.
That’s not knowing him. That is knowing about
him. There is a big difference.
Still many others say, “He doesn’t care about
me so I don’t care about him.” Nothing could be
further from the truth.

If you know about him or think he does not care
for you, we would like to give you an invitation
to meet him in a way that you may never have
before.

Come to GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2944
BASEMENT COLBY Ave., ON OCT.1 at 9 AM.
It does not matter what background you are.
We are an INTERNATIONAL CHURCH. We
have had people from literally all over the world
join us in person for worship.

Come and see! That’s what Andrew told Peter,
who could hardly be considered religious. Peter
found out it is not about a religion—it is about a
relationship. Will you?

We judge someone as human beings by what they have done.

God judges human beings based on what He sees they can do.

Our Mission: Forgiveness, Faith, Fellowship

Our mission at Grace is about three things: FORGIVENESS, FAITH, AND FELLOWSHIP.

FORGIVENESS: In a survey about a decade ago, almost everyone surveyed said that they wanted or needed to forgive or receive forgiveness. They couldn’t identify who they would give it to or even whom they would want to receive it from, yet it was the number one thing they wanted! In the cross of Jesus, we receive forgiveness for every single sin.

FAITH: If you sat down in a chair, you did an act of faith. Chances are you did not examine the chair to see if you thought it might hold you up. You experienced it in the past, and simply sat down! It is believing without seeing.

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” according to Hebrews 11:1. We were not there when Jesus died at the cross. But just like sitting in a chair, we trust what He did there will hold us uo--and forgive all our sins, no matter what they are.
