Some great words for the weekend from Michayla White (former Director of the International Network of Children’s Ministries)
“The gift of Sabbath is not only a gift of rest. It’s also the gift of regular reminding that we are indeed free. That our God doesn’t need our work. We don’t have to be afraid of anything - especially of our service to Him and for Him. May our work be rooted in pure love- and as 1 John 4:18 reminds us, perfect love casts out fear for fear has to do with punishment. Friend, you are no longer bound - He has made us free. His love is true. Your work doesn’t define you. Your title isn’t who you are. Remember to pray for discernment to understand truth and to distill messages that sound good but aren’t from Him. Messages that make you feel like you don’t get to stop are contradictory to how Yeshua Himself ministered. The metrics of your value are not wrapped up in what you do. What you do won’t save the world- He alone is the Savior. This is humbling and liberating- receive it! We get to participate in redemptive work. We are the ambassadors and planters. We have an urgent message, but we are not slaves to urgency. Reject overworking and rhythms of the empire of this world- the Kingdom assigns virtue entirely differently. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 MSG”
