Farewell, Frances! Frances Willard died on Feb 17, 1898, aged 58, in NYC, of pneumonia exacerbated by pernicious anemia. Public response was reminiscent of Lincoln’s death: voluminous newspaper coverage, memorial services in 4 cities as her funeral train took her casket back to Evanston.
