LEARN & DISCERN ON SEPT 13

This past Sunday, Cheryl and Dan Nester-Detweiler shared about the Central District Conference annual meeting that they attended this summer in Harrisonburg, Virginia (including a reading of Yertle the Turtle!) As a congregation, we are going to be gathering on Sun, Sept 13 for a time to "Learn and Discern" about our church's conference affiliation. Please plan to be there to be a part of the conversation! During this time, we will hear which themes emerged from the congregational survey and we will have structured conversations with one another. This will be a time of listening, discussion, and prayer. This is an important next step in our process. Childcare (and a snack!) will be provided for the kiddos so that parents can feel free to attend.

FALL MINISTRIES

Our ADVENTURE KIDS (pre-K through 5th grade) and Youth Group (middle school through high school) programs are starting up next Wed, Sept 9! Information about both programs went out via email last week. If your child(ren) plan to attend Adventure Kids, please be sure to register at the link below! This will help with planning purposes.

Join us for worship and communion this Sunday! Pastor Laura will share a message exploring "How much is too much?" How do we live as faithful citizens of God's Kin-dom with our material resources? We will read Jesus' parable of Lazarus and the rich man from Luke 16:19-31 and the story of the Golden Calf in Exodus 32:1-8. Join us in person or on Zoom. Childcare for pre-K and kindergarteners will be provided in the latter part of the service. Guests are warmly welcomed!

Save the date of Sun, Sept 20 for our next bi-monthly potluck lunch! If you are able, please bring a dish to share that can feed 10+ people – salads, fruit, meat, breads, desserts, and veggies are all welcome, either store-bought or lovingly prepared at home. It will be a great way to spend some time with your church friends, those that you've known for a long time and those that you've just met!

ANABAPTIST BIBLE STUDY

Pastor Laura will be leading a Wednesday evening group for the fall semester that will include Anabaptist-style community Bible study, sharing, and prayer. The group is open to all, but will be an especially nice opportunity for newer folks to connect in a mid-week small group. Reach out to Pastor Laura to express interest ([email protected]). The group will start on Wed, Sept 9 and will meet the first three Wednesdays of each month from 7:30-9 pm in the Sermon Discussion Room of the Meetinghouse.

Join us this Sunday for worship as we center ourselves in God's presence. Renee Roeschley will lead us in the contemplative practice of Visio Divina, where we meditate on God's word through a visual image. Our Scriptures will be Psalm 46 and John 1:1-9. SCHOOL KIT PACKING PARTY!

Plan to stay after the service this coming Sunday to join us for a packing party to put all the school supplies that have been collected this month into handmade bags. Thank you to everyone who took the time to shop for supplies! RPC is glad to join other Mennonite churches around the country to contribute toward this great cause, organized each summer by Mennonite Central Committee. Bonus -- there will be cookies available for all the helpers on Sunday!

Join us this Sunday for worship for an extra dose of singing! Instead of the usual sermon we will have an opportunity to sing our favorite songs from the Voices Together Hymnal. Feel free to pick a song or two ahead of time and call out suggestions during the Hymn Sing. If you would like, you are also invited to share briefly why the song you chose is a favorite. Our Scriptures will be Psalm 100, Ephesians 5:15-21, and Matthew 26:26-30. Join us in person or on Zoom. Childcare for pre-K and kindergarteners will be provided in the latter part of the service. Guests are warmly welcomed!

LEARN & DISCERN SEPT 13

As you are aware, our church is currently going through a discernment process regarding the possibility of changing our conference affiliation. Reba Place Church has been affiliated with the Illinois Mennonite Conference (IMC) and we are discerning the possibility of changing our affiliation to the Central District Conference (CDC). Thanks to all those who completed a survey about these ideas earlier this summer! Step 1 in the Tentative Timeline (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1K-tHjPVPMI-n7IT7nGanpy4iyiuJK0a-/view) is already done!

Step 2 will be a gathering on Sun, Sept 13, right after the worship service. During this time, we will hear which themes emerged from the survey and have structured conversations with one another. This will be a time of listening, discussion, and prayer. This is an important next step in our process. The comparative information sheet about the two conferences can be found at the link below, for your reference. Please plan to be present on the 13th to learn and discern with us; you are an important part of our church community.
