We want to take a moment — just a moment — to celebrate.

What Deborah Waxman built over 13 years at Reconstructing Judaism is genuinely remarkable. She elevated this movement in the broader Jewish world, articulating what a Reconstructionist approach looks like — and why it matters — with clarity, passion and intellectual seriousness.

She modeled something we want to carry forward: that Judaism is big enough to wrestle with the hardest questions. That we can hold difference with grace. That community doesn't require sameness — it requires commitment.

If you've been part of this movement — as a member, a donor, a clergy person, a student, a lay leader — you helped build what she led. And you're part of what comes next.

The Rabbi Deborah Waxman Fund for Innovative Leadership is our collective investment in that future. Thank you for being here.

At jrctogether we don’t shy away from hard conversations, especially in this time when many things feel hard. We honor each member of our daring, inclusive community; their opinions, feelings, ideas, and desire to be heard. We created our Covenant of Speech in 2014 to provide a guide to respectful dialogue and to remind us that compassion and open-heartedness lead to connection.

All together, we are JRC. Daring, inclusive Judaism.

We are so proud of our friend, EPD Officer Adam Howard who was promoted to the rank of Sergeant this morning. You may know Adam as one of the kindest, friendliest officers to assist JRC with safety. Adam leads with a dedication to collaborating, building trust within the community and within the Department, and creating pathways of opportunity for Evanston youth. This promotion is well deserved (the only downside is that we won’t get to see his smiley face as much!). JRC’s Executive Director Micky Baer had the privilege of attending Sergeant Howard’s swearing in ceremony at Evanston’s City Hall this morning.

The Future is Peace! JRC and our Israel-Palestine Working Group welcomed and for a Shabbat evening of listening, empathy, and vision for a shared peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians. Peace will not happen on its own, rather, by letting go of revenge and violence and replacing it with dialogue and real human connection, we can and we will create peace together. Aziz and Maoz, two lifelong peace activists, are on a book launch tour for their instant best seller, The Future is Peace.
