Mother's Day is this Sunday. We're getting a head start tomorrow night with the help of a 14th-century mystic.

This month's Dinner Church gathers us around the table with Julian of Norwich, an English "anchoress" (look it up) who chose to live enclosed in a small cell attached to a church, became one of the most beloved spiritual counselors of her age, and wrote what is considered the first book in the English language by a woman.

She's perhaps best remembered for writing, "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well" — which she wrote during the Black Death. Beat that.

She's less famous for her claim that Christ is our mother. We think it's worth a dinner conversation.
