We had 14 volunteers at church yesterday helping assemble Spanish John & Romans for the field. What a joy to take part in getting God’s Word into the hands of people around the world. Grateful for a church family that serves with purpose and heart.

We hope to see you tonight for this month’s Family Fellowship at Southern Pines Baptist Church. We’ll enjoy a potluck supper, play a fun game together, and hear a devotional from the Word of God. It’s always a sweet time of food, fellowship, and encouragement, and we’d love for you and your family to be part of it.

Verse of the Month:

“Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.” — 1 Samuel 12:24

As Samuel concludes his leadership over Israel, he leaves God’s people with a clear and compelling reminder. This verse is not a farewell speech. It is a spiritual anchor. Samuel points Israel back to the basics of a faithful walk with God, and those same basics still guide us today.

“Only fear the Lord” – Let God hold the highest place (Live with reverence)

Samuel is calling God’s people to a singular focus. To fear the Lord means to give Him the place of highest honor. This means HE should be put above our preferences, above our plans, above our emotions, and above the opinions of others.
This kind of fear leads us to take His Word seriously, treat sin seriously, and walk carefully before Him. A believer who fears the Lord does not live casually but with a steady awareness of His presence and authority.

“Serve him in truth” — Let your life match your faith (Live with sincerity)

To serve God “in truth” means serving Him with integrity: without pretense, without double-living, and without divided loyalties. Truthful service is not about perfection; it is about honesty before God.
God is honored when our service flows from a heart that is genuine, steady, and sincere.

“With all your heart” — Let nothing be held back (Live with wholehearted devotion)

God wants more than partial devotion. Wholehearted service is measured by commitment, not emotion.
A heart fully given to God is not easily distracted, discouraged, or derailed. It stays steady because it is anchored in Him.

“For consider how great things he hath done for you.” — Let gratitude shape your obedience (Live with gratitude)

Samuel ends with a call to remember. Reflecting on God’s salvation, guidance, protection, and answered prayers fuels joyful obedience. Gratitude motivates us to give ourselves fully to the One who has given us so much.

Ask yourself:
• What place does God truly hold in my daily decisions?
• Is my service marked by integrity and consistency?
• What part of my heart have I been holding back from full obedience?
• When was the last time I paused to reflect on God’s goodness to me?

As we continue to “Work Till Jesus Comes,” 1 Samuel 12:24 reminds us that faithful service grows out of a heart that honors God, walks in truth, and remembers His goodness with gratitude.

“The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.” - Psalm 126:3

We’ve had an amazing week serving the Lord! It was a blessing to be part of the Bridging the Gates Military Family and Community Expo on Fort Gordon and to meet so many service members and their families. If you received an invitation, we hope you’ll come visit us soon.

Another highlight came during our Wednesday evening service as Bro. Jerry Sexton from Bearing Precious Seed shared an uplifting update on the work God is doing through their ministry. We were grateful to welcome Bro. Jerry and Mrs. Kim and rejoice with them in all the Lord is accomplishing.

We hope to see you there!

“Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” - Psalm 127:3
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” - 2 Corinthians 3:17

At Southern Pines Baptist Church, we are grateful for the strength and sacrifice of our military families...the Service Members who serve, the spouses who support, and the children who stand resilient beside them. As we honor military spouses and children this month, we count it a privilege to serve those who serve our nation.

In preparation for the Bridging the Gates: Military Family Community Expo, our church family packed over 1,000 John & Romans booklets and Gospel tracts to share God’s hope with military homes. We have prayed over each one, asking the Lord to use His Word to encourage hearts and strengthen families.

We look forward to connecting with Service Members, their spouses, and their children at this year’s expo. If you’ll be attending, we’d love for you to stop by our table and let us be a blessing to your family.

Verse of the Month:

“Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;” — Romans 12:11

Romans 12 is one of the most practical chapters in the New Testament, and this single verse gives us three simple but powerful instructions for those that desire to faithfully serve Christ.

“Not slothful in business” — Serve with diligence

Business here refers to our responsibilities: our duties, our tasks, our work for God.

The Holy Spirit warns us against spiritual laziness.
• Not dragging our feet
• Not putting off obedience
• Not treating the Lord’s work casually

A Christian who understands God’s mercy should be marked by eagerness, not apathy. The work of the Lord deserves our best effort.

“Fervent in spirit” — Serve with passion

The word fervent carries the idea of boiling, burning, and glowing with heat.

This is not emotional hype…it is spiritual zeal. It is a heart warmed by gratitude, stirred by truth, and energized by the Holy Spirit.

A fervent believer doesn’t serve out of obligation. They serve because Christ has changed them, eternity is real, and they love the Lord.

“Serving the Lord” — Serve with the right Master in mind

This is the anchor of the verse.

We are not serving people, programs, positions, or personal recognition.

We are serving the Lord. This keeps our motives pure, spirit steady, and our hands faithful even when the work is hard or unnoticed.

When Christ is the One we serve, no task is too small, no sacrifice is wasted, and no labor is in vain.

Ask yourself:
• Have I allowed spiritual laziness to creep into my service?
• Is my spirit fervent or has it cooled?
• Who am I really serving when I work, minister, or help others?
• What area of my life needs renewed diligence and zeal this month?

The Christian life is not passive….it is active, intentional, and wholehearted.

As we continue to “Work Till Jesus Comes,” Romans 12:11 reminds us that the Lord deserves workers who are diligent, fervent, and faithful.

Verse of the Month:

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” — Colossians 3:17

The Holy Spirit, through Paul, takes the entire Christian life and places it under one sweeping command: everything we do is to be done for Christ. Not just the spiritual things, church things, or the moments when we feel like being spiritual. Everything!!

The key phrase is “whatsoever ye do… do all.”
• Whatsoever = everything
• In word = speech
• In deed = actions
• Do all = no exceptions

Colossians 3:17 defines the scope of the work: “Whatsoever ye do in word or deed…”

As mentioned above, the Spirit leaves no part of life untouched. Consider what this includes: our conversations, our decisions, our work ethic, our home life, our ministry, our habits, etc.

The Holy Spirit is not limiting this to church life, ministry life, or so-called spiritual moments. He explicitly includes every word and every action: “whatsoever we do.” That means the entire Christian life falls under this command. The work we do for Christ is not confined to a church building; it is lived out in kitchens, classrooms, offices, and quiet moments when no one else sees. Christian service is not a task or a time slot, it is your life.

Colossians 3:17 defines the motive of the work: “do all in the name of the Lord Jesus…”

To act in “the name of the Lord Jesus” means: under His authority, in obedience to His Word, and for His glory.

This keeps our service from becoming mechanical or self-centered. We don’t serve to earn favor or to impress others. We serve because we belong to Christ, and everything we do reflects on Him.

Colossians 3:17 also defines the spirit of the work: “giving thanks to God…”

Gratitude is the fuel of Christian service, because a thankful heart doesn’t drag its feet or complain about the load. A thankful heart sees service as a privilege, not a burden.

When we remember what Christ has done for us, thanksgiving becomes the natural posture of our work.

Ask yourself:
• Do my words and actions consistently reflect the name of Christ?
• Am I serving with gratitude or simply out of routine?
• What part of my daily life have I kept separate instead of surrendering it to Christ?
• How can I intentionally honor Christ in the ordinary moments?

When every word and deed is done for Christ, the whole Christian life becomes an act of worship. This is what it means to work till Jesus comes; faithfully, joyfully, and thankfully, in every part of life.

It is common for churches to "trade" members with some regularity. We ought to thank God for faithful church members.

Our hearts are saddened at the passing of Ashley Curtis, our pastor’s beloved wife. She lived as a Proverbs 31 woman - faithful, gracious, steadfast, and full of the love of Christ.

“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” — Psalm 116:15

We ask our friends and church family to pray for Pastor Curtis and the family during this time of loss.
