But this story isn't just about identifying who our neighbors are...

It's about asking a better question:

How can I BE a neighbor to the people around me?

Join us as we talk about loving people, looking beyond ourselves, and seeing the needs of the people God has placed along our road.

This week at HOPE STUDENTS, we dove into our new series on the Parables of Jesus by looking at the Parable of the Persistent Widow in Luke 18.

Jesus tells us to pray and not give up. But there’s something important we can miss if we focus only on the widow’s persistence: the judge in the story is nothing like God.

The judge was unjust, selfish, and annoyed by the widow. God is the opposite.

God is good. God is kind. God is just.

We don’t keep praying because we need to annoy God into answering us. We keep praying because we know who God isand trust that He hears us, loves us, and cares about what we care about.

We pray persistently:
🙏 Because we believe God can do anything.
🙏 Because we trust His character.
🙏 Because prayer is part of our relationship with Him.

Sometimes God answers quickly. Sometimes the answer looks different than we hoped. Sometimes we may have to wait a long time.

But we can keep praying.

Not because we need to wear God down—but because we know He is good.

We will answer questions like:
How persistent should we be when we pray?
What do we do when God doesn’t answer as quickly as we want?
And what does an unjust judge have to do with the way we see God?

Tomorrow night, we’re kicking off our brand-new 5-WEEK SERIES: PARABLES!

But before we dive into the stories Jesus told, we’re starting with a simple question:

WHAT IS A PARABLE?

Why did Jesus teach through stories?

What makes a parable different from just a normal story?

And what was Jesus actually trying to communicate through them?

We’re starting with the basics and then spending the next four weeks exploring some of Jesus’ most powerful and challenging parables—and learning how they apply to our lives today.

Last Wednesday, we talked about something that sounds simple—but is incredibly important:

How do we actually read the Bible?

Our students learned that studying Scripture isn’t just about opening the Bible and hoping something jumps out at us. We talked about preparing our space, understanding the context, asking good questions, using helpful study tools, and most importantly, learning to see what God is actually saying through His Word.

The Bible isn’t just a book we’re supposed to get through—it’s God’s Word that we’re invited to know and live out.

Next up: PARABLES!

Starting August 26, we’re jumping into a 5-week series looking at some of Jesus’ most famous stories and what they teach us about following Him.

We’re back tomorrow night for a ONE-NIGHT SPECIAL as we take on and answer a really important question:

HOW DO I STUDY THE BIBLE?

We’ll talk about why studying the Bible matters, how to actually read and understand what we’re reading, and some practical ways to dig deeper into God’s Word.

Last night was a LOT of fun!

We discovered two very important things:

First, German candy makers apparently have a personal vendetta against children AND our students are really bad at darts. 😂🎯

But honestly, nights like last night are about so much more than games, candy, and having a good time.
Here at Hope Students, we LOVE having fun. But we also believe that moments like last night are a catalyst for something much more important.

Every laugh, conversation, game, and shared experience gives us another opportunity to build relationships and walk alongside our students as they grow in their relationship with Christ.

We’re thankful for nights like last night—and even more thankful for the students God has entrusted to us.
