Sunday-Weekday Connection for Today
“I will return again to my place
until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face.
In their distress they will beg my favor:
Come, let us return to the Lord,
for it is he who has torn, and he will heal us;
he has struck down, and he will bind us up.
After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will raise us up,
that we may live before him.
Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord;
his appearing is as sure as the dawn;
he will come to us like the showers,
like the spring rains that water the earth.”
What shall I do with you, O Ephraim?
What shall I do with you, O Judah?
Your love is like a morning cloud,
like the dew that goes away early.
Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets;
I have killed them by the words of my mouth,
and my judgment goes forth as the light.
For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,
the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.” ~ Hosea 5:15-6:6
1) What is this passage about? Who is speaking? What mood do they seem to be in? What clues do you find in the text?
2) Because the people have trusted in military might rather than in God, God is angry with them. In what do you put your trust? How often do you suppose you place your trust in something other than God? How can you learn to trust God more fully? What help will you need in order to become a more faithful follower of our Lord?

Sunday-Weekday Connection for Today
“And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth of every kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals of the earth of every kind and the cattle of every kind and everything that creeps upon the ground of every kind. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let us make humans in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over the cattle and over all the wild animals of the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” So God created humans in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.” God said, “See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the air and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all their multitude. On the sixth day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.” ~ Genesis 1:24-2:3
1) How does the sixth day of creation compare with the first five days in terms of how many different things God created? Why do you think that is? What commandments did God give the humans at creation? In what ways have we broken those commandments as a human race? In what was have we honored and kept them?
2) How often do you take time to rest? Why is it so difficult for many people to take time off? What types of things prevent you from sleeping more peacefully? If God, the almighty Creator of heaven and earth, took a day to rest at the end of his work of creation, what should you learn about the importance of rest?

Sunday-Weekday Connection for Today
“And God said, “Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.” So God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters swarm and every winged bird of every kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.” ~ Genesis 1:20-23
1) Why do you suppose God might have created the birds and the fish on the same day? Do those two categories of creatures share anything in particular in common? Are you a person who enjoys fishing? Why or why not? If so, what are some of your favorite memories of fishing trips you have taken?
2) Do you pay attention to the birds? Spend a little time beside a window or outside today to watch the birds. Pay attention to the differences in colors and markings and shapes among the different types of birds. Give thanks to God for the variety of his creation.

Sunday-Weekday Connection for Today
“And God said, “Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years, and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.” ~ Genesis 1:14-19
1) How often do you notice the presence of light? Are you a person who watches the weather? Why or why not? When has a light been a source of comfort for you? What other feelings or emotions can light inspire?
2) If the weather and especially the clouds permit, do some stargazing tonight. Why do you think so many ancient cultures saw pictures in the stars? What are some of your favorite memories of times you have gone stargazing? What do you wonder as you look at the night sky?

Sunday-Weekday Connection for Today
“And God said, “Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.” ~ Genesis 1:9-13
1) Spend a little time outside today and count how many growing things you can find. Where do you see the earth obeying God’s command to put forth vegetation? Which forms of vegetation are your favorites? Why?
2) How often do you look at creation and see the goodness in it? Do you think God still sees his creation as good? Why or why not? Take time to praise God for his goodness and the goodness you see in the world today!

Sunday-Weekday Connection for Today
“And God said, “Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.” ~ Genesis 1:6-8
1) What are some of your favorite water places? Which oceans, lakes, rivers, or streams evoke the most memories for you? How do you feel when you sit beside a lake or a river? If you have visited oceans, how differently did that experience make you feel versus standing beside a lake? Why?
2) How often do you look up at the sky? For what reasons do you look at the sky? What can ship’s captains and navigators learn from gazing at the sky? What can farmers learn from looking at the sky? In what ways might the sky remind you of God? Why?
