The The Episcopal Church is planning a major September conference to celebrate 50 years of LGBTQ+ inclusion since its 1976 resolution affirming homosexual members as "children of God" with a "full and equal claim" to the Church's love and care.
The event will feature several openly LGBTQ+ clergy, including le***an, gay, and transgender leaders. Organizers describe the 1976 resolution as a historic breakthrough that helped pave the way for greater acceptance of LGBTQ+ people within the denomination.
Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe said the church remains committed to achieving "full inclusion for all of God's children" and expressed support for LGBTQ+ individuals facing discrimination.
Among the speakers is Gene Robinson, who became the denomination's first openly gay bishop in 2003. Robinson previously declared that advocates of LGBTQ+ inclusion had "won" the debate within the Episcopal Church and said the movement would continue until LGBTQ+ people are fully included in both church and society.
