Hope in Humble Beginnings
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.” (Zechariah 4:10, NLT)
If we were given the opportunity to plan out the entrance of the King of Glory who would have chosen the location and surroundings where Jesus was born.
It was a place meant for animals, filled with noise, discomfort, unpleasant smells and absolutely zero privacy. And yet, in His infinite foresight and plan for humanity
God chose humble surroundings of an ordinary in descript town to announce the entrance of the King of the universe and Savior of us all.
Consider that God could have chosen a palace, a prominent city, or a wealthy family. Instead, He chose a stable just as He looked across the annuls of time and picked a humble little teenage girl from an ordinary family to bring to this world the most extraordinary provision and promise we can ever expect to enjoy.
This is a crucial point of the Christmas event
God chooses the unexpected. He takes what looks small and seemingly unworthy and fills it with His glory. What looked like weakness became the greatest display of strength. What looked like obscurity became the center of redemption’s story.
In our lives it is easy to feel like the daily responsibilities of life the problems that arise, endless tasks that no one seems to appreciate, the notion that the devil and the world plants that you are insignificant, just a number, another person passing though time with no reason of rhyme to the rhythms of your existence.
But the same God who chose a little girl, a small village and a stable is at work in those unseen places of our life.
Small seemingly insignificant starts and processes quiet faithfulness, hidden sacrifices are the very places God delights to reveal His miracle working power and presence.
Think of what Mary might have thought, why me? Does God not know how these things might affect my life, my upcoming marriage, the plans for children, a home security safety?
This Christmas, don't let the worlds rush and tumble depiction of the season drag you down, but let the simple story of the beginnings of this miraculous event elevate you and fill
your heart with joy and peace.
Let the manger remind you that God sees you in the ordinary and meets you there with extraordinary grace. His Grace is sufficient for all your needs.
It is easy to find ourselves pressed down in mulligrubs and feel insignificant, unappreciated overlooked?
Instead of wallowing in pity and thinking about all of the dilemmas that life throws your way, take the lemons and turn them into lemonade, ask how may God want to exhibit His glory though your situation?
Pray this simple prayer with me:
My Father, thank you for reminding me that you can be glorified even in the humble, unseen places in life. Help me not to despise the small, hidden places of my life, but to see them as opportunities for you to be glorified. Just as you chose the manger and Mary, help me trust that you have also chosen me for this process and journey though life also. AMEN!
