“Appreciating the Gift of the Holy Spirit”
3rd Sunday of Pentecost

1 Corinthians 12: 4-6
4) Now there are varieties of gifts but the same Spirit, 5) and there are varieties of services but the same Lord, 6) and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone.

Hymns:
14 Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above
Sing praise to God who reigns above,
The God of all creation. The God of pow'r, the God of love,
The God of our salvation; With healing balm my soul He fills,
And ev'ry faithless murmur stills: To God all praise and glory.

What God's almighty pow'r hath made,
His gracious mercy keepeth; By morning glow or evening shade
His watchful eye ne'er sleepeth; Within the kingdom of His might,
Lo! all is just and all is right: To God all praise and glory.

Then all my toilsome way along,
I sing aloud His praises, That men may hear the grateful song
My voice unwearied raises; Be joyful in the Lord, my heart,
Both soul and body bear your part: To God all praise and glory.

O ye who name Christ's holy name,
Give God all praise and glory; All ye who own His pow'r, proclaim
Aloud the wondrous story! Cast each false idol from his throne,
The Lord is God, and He alone: To God all praise and glory.
Amen.

550 All Are Welcome
Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,
A place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace;
Here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome,
All are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where prophets speak, and words are strong and true.
Where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew.
Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;
Here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: All are welcome,
All are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat:
A banquet hall on holy ground, where peace and justice meet.
Here the love of God through Jesus, is revealed in time and space;
As we share in Christ the feast that frees us: All are welcome,
All are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone
To heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known.
Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face;
Let us bring an end to fear and danger: All are welcome,
All are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard
and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words within the Word.
Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace,
Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome,
All are welcome, all are welcome in this place.

“Understanding the Gift of the Holy Spirit”
2nd Sunday of Pentecost

1 Corinthians 12: 1-3
1) Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2) You know that when you were gentiles you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. 3) Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.

Hymns:
19 Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, thou Fount of ev'ry blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise:
Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above;
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, Mount of Thy redeeming love.

Here I raise mine Ebenezer; Hither by Thy help I'm come;
And I hope by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home:
Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious blood.

O to grace how great a debtor Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let Thy grace, Lord, like a fetter, Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it; Seal it for Thy courts above.

436 O Master Let Me Walk With The
O Master, let me walk with Thee
In lowly paths of service free;
Tell me Thy secret, help me bear
The strain of toil, the fret of care.

Help me the slow of heart to move
By some clear, winning word of love;
Teach me the wayward feet to stay,
And guide them in the homeward way.

Teach me Thy patience; still with Thee
In closer, dearer company,
In work that keeps faith sweet and strong,
In trust that triumphs over wrong.

In hope that sends a shining ray
Far down the future's broad'ning way,
In peace that only Thou canst give,
With Thee, O Master, let me live.
Amen.

“Wonders of God”
Pentecost Communion/Memorial Day

Acts 2: 1-13
1) When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2) And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3) Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4) All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
5) Now there were devout Jews from every people under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6) And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7) Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 😎 And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9) Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10) Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11) Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” 12) All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13) But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”

Hymns:
456 God of Grace and God of Glory
God of grace and God of glory, On Thy people pour Thy pow'r;
Crown Thine ancient Church's story; Bring her bud to glorious flow'r.
Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage
For the facing of this hour, For the facing of this hour.

Lo! the hosts of evil round us Scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways!
From the fears that long have bound us Free our hearts to work and praise.
Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage,
For the living of these days, For the living of these days.

Cure Thy children's warring madness; Bend our pride to Thy control;
Shame our wanton selfish gladness, Rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage,
Lest we miss Thy kingdom's goal, Lest we miss Thy kingdom's goal.

Set our feet on lofty places; Gird our lives that they may be
Armored with all Christ-like graces In the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage,
That we fail not man nor Thee, That we fail not man nor Thee!

Save us from weak resignation To the evils we deplore;
Let the search for Thy salvation Be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage,
Serving Thee whom we adore, Serving Thee whom we adore.
Amen.

233 Holy Spirit, Truth Divine
Holy Spirit, Truth divine,
Dawn upon this heart of mine;
Word of God, and inward light,
Wake my spirit, clear my sight.

Holy Spirit, Love divine,
Glow within this heart of mine;
Kindle ev'ry high desire;
Perish self in Thy pure fire.

Holy Spirit, Pow'r divine,
Fill and nerve this will of mine;
By Thee may I strongly live,
Bravely bear, and nobly strive.

Holy Spirit, Right divine,
King within my conscience reign;
Be my law, and I shall be
Firmly bound, forever free.
Amen.

521 Here, O My Lord, I See Thee Face to Face
Here, O my Lord, I see Thee face to face;
Here would I touch and handle things unseen;
Here grasp with firmer hand the eternal grace,
And all my weariness upon Thee lean.

Here would I feed upon the bread of God,
Here drink with Thee, the royal wine of heav'n;
Here would I lay aside each earthly load,
Here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiv'n.

This is the hour of banquet and of song;
This is the heav'nly table spread for me;
Here let me feast, and, feasting still prolong
The brief, bright hour of fellowship with Thee.

Too soon we rise; the symbols disappear;
The feast, though not the love is past and gone;
The bread and wine remove, but Thou art here,
Nearer than ever, still my shield and sun.

I have no help but Thine, nor do I need
Another arm save Thine to lean upon.
It is enough, my Lord, enough indeed;
My strength is in Thy might, Thy might alone.
Amen.
