Seventeenth Sunday After Trinity - October 9, 2022
What if I stood up here and told you there is no such thing as prehistoric? Would you think I was a quack and not too bright?
Open your Bibles to the very first sentence in the first chapter in Genesis and that is exactly what it says: “In the beginning.” After that follows a description of the creation of the universe and the earth, the animals and all of mankind. This is history from the beginning of time. According to the literal reading of the Bible our universe is only about five or six thousand years old, and not millions and billions of years.
For many years, secular, scientific journals have been suppressing articles that favor creationism, because behind their agenda is the need to promote the theory of evolution. Isn’t that view scientific after all? To answer that we need to look at a topic called circular reasoning. The theory of evolution has been bandied about throughout history even though it was generally believed the earth was only a few thousand years old. In 1770 a man named Buffon wrote that the earth was 70,000 years old but 25 years later James Hutton was writing that it was millions and millions of years old and the currently accepted number is 4.5 billion years. There is no definitive science behind this. It is just necessary for evolution to have taken place. Remember, the Big Bang Theory is still a theory.
The battle cry of the evolutionists is, “Give me enough time and anything can happen.” There really is no scientific basis for the dating of the earth. In the textbooks we are shown columns of sediment arranged in layers. In nature these do not exist. Secular scientist’s determine the age of the layers by the fossils they contain and then they determine the age of the fossils by the layers. I’m not making this up. In Glenco’s Earth Science school textbook on page 331 from 1999 says: “Scientists use index fossils to determine the age of rock layers (You date the fossils by using the rocks)”. So there is no beginning place, but one depends on the other and visa versa This is just one out of many such entries in our children’s text books. It all appears so scientific until you look at the facts. There are so many pieces of evidence to refute the theory that, if our schools were being responsible they would be teaching our children that there are serious problems with that idea of the beginning of life.
Polystrate trees are just one tiny piece of that puzzle. These are fossilized trees standing straight through many rock layers. These are found all over the world and debunk the idea that the layers have taken eons to form and that fossils can date the layers. These unusual fossilized forests do suggest there was a worldwide flood.
All these things I am telling you are easily found online. However ideas that oppose the secular world view are being suppressed more as time goes on.
Every day it becomes more evident that if we aren’t well prepared with the facts, we may not stand strong against the persecution coming our way. While I am still hopeful that our situation might turn around, I have never in my lifetime seen such a trend toward obliterating the truth and punishing believers. This has been escalating over recent years, but has reached alarming proportions. It is beginning to feel like N**i Germany or Communist Russia.
I want you to be prepared to choose and defend the Word of God over modern science and propaganda. One of the top reasons why people are not embracing Christianity is because of the false belief that the Bible is not scientific and is in error. Without the knowledge that the Bible contains the most important and trustworthy information in the universe our children are left to the wolves. Their souls and eternity are too important to let this happen.
The idea that the universe and the earth and mankind were designed by an intelligent force is really much more sensible than the idea that some mindless blob once floated around in nothingness and then blew up and turned into a universe with an earth perfectly suited to support life, and this earth had the exact chemicals that somehow came together to form a cell that is as complex as a small city to become increasingly complex until it became you. The Bible says we are wonderfully made, and indeed we are, by our loving Creator
The Bible also tells us that this amazing and intelligent force is the Holy Trinity, each member having unique and yet completely harmonious qualities. It is through Jesus the world and you and I have been created. This is found in the Gospel of John 1:1-4, and John 1:14 tells us He come to earth in the flesh. Before Jesus came to earth in the flesh, the Bible was filled with prophecies about his birth, life and death. There were more than 300 of them and every single one came to pass. MIT calculated the odds of one man fulfilling just eight of these at 1 in 100 trillion. This alone proves divine authorship. Who but God could orchestrate such a thing?
Our Scriptures today give us a brief view of Paul, who turned from persecutor of believers to persecuted for his belief in Christ. And then in our Gospel we are given an account of day in the life of Jesus. He went on that day to the home of an important Pharisee to eat dinner at his table. We don’t know who this was, nor how the invitation came. This took place on the Sabbath and as Jesus was going into the house, he was met by a man with dropsy or edema. This is swelling from inflammation and can be deadly. Jesus knew he would be criticized for healing on the Sabbath because the Pharisees had taken the law to unreasonable extremes, so he said to the lawyers and Pharisees present there, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?” They refused to answer and he healed the man. Then he said, “Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit and will not pull it out on the Sabbath?” They did not respond to this either.
Since Jesus was not among their prestigious company, being an itinerant preacher from humble beginnings, they were likely fuming. That could be why he went on to tell them how important it is to be humble, not seeking exalted positions.
It is difficult to imagine that God came to earth in human form and chose this humble way of life. We are beyond blessed to be chosen and loved by him. The joy of being His people is incomparable and not to be missed by those we love.
Kathie mentioned recently during announcements that she wanted to begin a special prayer effort to bring our prodigals home. After some thought she decided on a plan. She has cut out dozens of little sheep. We want you to put the names of those who have never embraced Christ or have walked away and even those who are simply struggling, on these sheep and place them in this glass vase. During our service we will pray for these and they will also be prayed for during the Wednesday prayer meeting. There is so much power in prayer and this is multiplied when we pray in unity. I would like to take a few minutes to do this now and we will jointly pray for these loved ones.

Prayer for the Prodigals

Father, we pray for the soon return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are told that it is Your desire that none be lost and that we should pray for laborers for the harvest.
We ask that we might serve You well to bring the gospel to the lost and that a mighty army of witnesses would be loosed in the world in these days.
We bring into your presence our unsaved loved ones and those who have walked away from your loving care. According to Your Word we loose them from the the lies and influence of the enemy and render his wickedness against them impotent.
We bind them to Your perfect will for this life and to the mind of Christ so they will know the Truth that sets us free.
We ask you to heal their scarred hearts and make their conscience tender.
Please speak to them in their waking hours and in their dreams, revealing Your perfect love to them. Remove corrupt companions from their lives and replace them with those who are true and faithful to You. For those chained by addiction we ask that they be set free.
We claim their minds will be renewed by the Word of God and the Word shall dwell within them.
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus makes them free from the law of sin and death. We earnestly pray for their redemption and thank you Father for watching over Your Word to perform it in the lives of these precious souls.

Sixteenth Sunday After Trinity - October 2, 2022
The widow of Nain was surely one of the most blessed of her time. Her son lay dead on his funeral bier, until she came face to face with Jesus. Jesus actually spoke to the co**se of the young man and said, “Arise.” We can assume this young man, brought back to life, went on to give his mother grandchildren to enjoy in her old age.
Why do we spend so much time and money going to the doctor, while failing to pick up our manufacturers handbook and follow His instructions for healthy minds and bodies? Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate having access to medical care and I believe that God uses doctors and nurses with the many procedures they provide to heal us and save lives. What I am asking is, “Why do we so often put God last in the healing process?” We have been told by Jesus in His own words in John 3:5 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believe that on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
As we look back through the history of mankind we find some interesting things. First of all sickness entered the world with sin. This is not to say that you and I always have a particular sickness due to some sin we have committed, although there can be things we bring upon ourselves by careless living. It simply means that prior to the day that Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, the world was perfect. In fact it is unimaginable to think what it must have been like to watch the world change instantly from paradise to an existence filled with fear, anger, jealousy, hatred, death, and every other thing that sin has brought upon us.
Even then the human body was much stronger than our present genetic make up allows. Men lived for hundreds of years and were able to procreate when they were centuries old. While the theory of evolution would have us believe that mankind becomes increasingly superior after coming from single cell creatures. It’s the goo to you, by the way of the zoo, theory, that completely contradicts Biblical history.
According to the Bible, God created a perfect man and a perfect woman to be the parents of mankind. Modern studies of genetics confirm that we all have a common mother. Eve was a very real person. Evolutionists attempt to fit everything into their world view, so they do not look at God’s Word and say, “Maybe the Bible story is true. However there is much more. For example: If we all have a common ancestor her DNA must have been superior to ours because in our present world, inbreeding causes deformities and other problems. Indeed our DNA is degrading, not improving with each generation. This is one reason I believe that we are coming near to the end of days and the long awaited return of Jesus.
There is another interesting fact about the DNA of Adam and Eve. All the nations of the world were already imprinted in their genetic make-up. We have no idea what they looked like but we can look around this chapel today and see many diverse traits: tall, short, brown eyes and blue, curly hair and straight. All of these traits came out of the DNA of our common parents.
Laced into our present DNA are propensities for certain illnesses. Some families are prone to cancer or diabetes. Sickness is a terrible reality in our world today, but Jesus always healed everyone who came to Him. The only
time I can think of when Jesus gave a negative response, was when a Canaanite woman came to Jesus asking Him to cast a demon out of her daughter. This story can be found in Mark 7:24-30.
Jesus ignored her until the disciples said to send her away. Then he told her, ”I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel”
Kneeling before Him, she begged, “Lord, help me”
His reply seems so rude, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
“Yes, Lord,” said the woman, “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
“O woman, your faith is great: Let it be done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
I am sure this was done in this way to teach us a lesson about faith. Our faith must increase for the days we are living in. I am not suggesting that you throw all your meds in the garbage and stop going to the doctor, but we must begin approaching the Lord with the trust due to Him and begin believing that, as Christians, our existence is not merely material but we are citizens of heaven.
Many of us have lost loved ones and our hearts are broken because they cannot see the power of the Risen Christ. Our most important job is not trying to fix them but to draw close to Him so they see Him manifested in us. Let us work toward becoming walking, talking billboards for the glory of God. Believing that He not only has power to heal but wants to and will heal us, is an important step toward becoming real witnesses for Him.

Father in Heaven, we come to you in Jesus Name today acknowledging His saving grace in our lives and ask that You would make us to be His voice, His hands, His feet, His love, reaching out to those who so desperately need Him.

In Jesus Name we pray. Amen
