OPENING HYMN: #249 “All Glory, Laud and Honor”
(all the children are invited to join in marching and waving palms during the hymn)
CALL TO WORSHIP
L: People gathered from everywhere to wave palm
branches and praise him as royalty.
P: Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
L: See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
P: Lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a c**t, the foal of a donkey.
L: Our hearts are filled with expectation
As we welcome the coming king.
P: Let us worship Jesus Christ together.
ALLs: Hosanna in the highest!
OPENING PRAYER: Dear God, on this Palm Sunday, we remember the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey as the crowds waved palm branches. We have spent the past 6 weeks “Following the Footsteps of the Savior”, during his ministry. Now, as we begin Holy Week, we ask for your guidance and strength to continue to follow in the footsteps of Jesus on his final journey to the Cross. Help us to follow the example he set for us - to be humble, to serve others, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Amen."
PASSING THE PEACE
CHILDREN’S SERMON
RECEIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS: “As the people of Jerusalem laid their cloaks and palm branches on the road, let us lay our treasures at his feet. With joyful hearts and grateful spirits, let us bring our tithes and offerings to the Lord”
OFFERTORY/DOXOLOGY
PRAYER OF DEDICATION: Lord, you are the giver of every good gift. Accept these gifts we pray, and may they be used to bring hope, healing, and love to a world longing for your peace. Bless these offerings and all who give in the name of Christ, our Savior. Amen.
PSALTER: Philippians 2:5-11
L: You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Though he was God, he did not think of
equality with God as something to cling to.
P: Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
L: When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself
in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
P: Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
L: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
P: and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
MESSAGE: “He Is Here!!”
Scripture Texts: Luke 19:28-40 – 28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a c**t tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” 32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the c**t, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the c**t?” 34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.” 35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the c**t and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road. 7 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: 38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” 40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
Zechariah 9:9 - Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a c**t, the foal of a donkey.
Colossians 1:19 - For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him.
Revelations 6:2 - I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
