Week two of our Gain, Save, Give stewardship series. Jesus tells the parable of a rich farmer who tore down his barns to build bigger ones, and God called him a fool, not because he had much, but because he kept it all for himself and was not rich toward God. Paul reminds Timothy that godliness with contentment is great gain, and that the love of money plunges people into ruin. This sermon recovers Wesley's true meaning of save all you can… not hoarding, but contentment and simple living that frees our resources to flow. It invites the congregation to evaluate what "enough" looks like in their own lives. Suggested themes for hymns and liturgy: contentment, simplicity, trust in God's provision, rich toward God.

Remembering 9/11 — 25 Years Later
As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage shown by first responders and everyday people. In the midst of tragedy, communities across our nation came together in compassion, service, and unity. Today, we honor that spirit by continuing to care for one another, seeking peace, and praying for healing in our world.

What a genuinely joyful morning at St. Luke’s. Leon Beaudin on the piano and Fletcher Wernholm on the organ started playing about ten minutes before the service, and it completely set the tone — warm, welcoming, and just plain beautiful. The music was awesome and really pulled everyone right in.

The kids were all in on the children’s message, especially the “follow the leader” moment — and honestly, so was the rest of the congregation. Pastor Huff’s message lifted everyone right up, and John Augustine’s Scripture reading from the King James Version added that classic, steady grounding we all love.

And of course, there are the people working behind the scenes — our teachers, fellowship hosts, welcome desk crew, and volunteer coordinators — who make everything run so smoothly week after week.

Our whole team of music, acolytes, ushers, AV team, and liturgist brought such heart and inspiration to the service. It truly felt like everyone had a hand in making the morning special.

Leon and Fletcher are already hoping to put together another music experience one Sunday afternoon in October.

Jesus tells his disciples that he will suffer, die, and rise again — a path they don’t expect. Peter tries to stop him, but Jesus rebukes him, showing that human ideas of success can oppose God’s plan. Jesus then calls every follower to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him. Trying to save our own life leads to loss, but giving our life to Christ leads to true life. No earthly gain is worth losing our soul, and the Son of Man will return in glory to judge all things.

Jesus’ mission — suffering and resurrection.
Self-denial — letting go of our own agenda.
Taking up the cross — choosing obedience even when costly.
True life — the paradox of discipleship.

This sermon moves from who Jesus is to what do we do because of who He is... from the question "Who do you say I am?" to the life that flows out of the answer... Peter's confession at Caesarea Philippi becomes the foundation stone... Romans 12 becomes the blueprint for what gets built on it. Worship elements should lean into themes of calling, gifting, and belonging. Consider a Call to Worship built around Matthew 16:15, "But who do you say that I am?" addressed directly to the gathered church.
