We all have a something that grounds us and for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, it was his faith, his beliefs shaped his approach to the civil rights movement and through that foundation, he led a movement rooted in love, justice and nonviolence.

Dr. King envisioned an inclusive United States of America, calling people together across differences and urging a nation where dignity and opportunity were guaranteed for all, regardless of race, religion, background or creed.

We still have lots of great pumpkins, don’t wait too long to get to carving for Friday, or to make some great pumpkin pie for the holidays!

All proceeds go towards feeding over 90 children in our area each weekend!

This Sunday in the Gospel of Luke Jesus is traveling through Samaritan country and is rejected by the locals when his disciples try to arrange for shelter and food. Jesus must rebuke James and John when they want to have Jesus rain fire upon these people that don’t want Jesus around. This is when Jesus encounters three men who wish to follow Jesus as one of his disciples, but there are complications that keep them from doing it right away. We often allow other needs in life to get in the way of our following Jesus. This Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, often called the “Birthday of the Church.” Before Jesus’ arrest, crucifixion, and resurrection Jesus told his disciples that even though He was leaving, He would send them the Holy Spirit to be with them always. Pentecost was the fulfillment of that promise when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples staying together in an upper room, as Jesus had commanded. From that moment on we have been living in the age of the Holy Spirit, our constant companion and counselor. How does the Holy Spirit make a difference in your life, in your church?
