Today, Trinity had the joy of welcoming Episcopal brothers and sisters from across the diocese, along with Canon Beth and Bishop Susan, as they gathered on our campus for diocesan strategic planning.
As Senior Warden, I was honored to greet our guests and share a glimpse of the many ministries that make Trinity such a vibrant community of faith from our Toy Makers, Choir, Prayers and Squares, and Community Garden to our Samaritan ministries and outreach efforts.
Every time I have the opportunity to talk about Trinity, I am filled with gratitude and pride. Our congregation continually opens its doors, hearts, and hands to others, creating a place of welcome, belonging, and service. Together, we strive to bring Christ to the people and the people to Christ.
Thank you to everyone whose gifts and dedication make Trinity such a remarkable witness to God's love in our community.

A message from Trinity Escondido’s new rector.

Dear Siblings in Christ at Trinity, Escondido,

I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve you as your next rector! During the call process, my wife Jane and I were grateful to get to work with Leila and meet most of your vestry. We have been reading your newsletters, watching many of your services via Facebook, and doing what we can to get to know you from afar. We immediately noticed the crisp turns of the acolytes and the strength of your choir, and I look forward to joining your inspiring worship services. We were touched to see the handmade doll beds and bedding that go to community children, and appreciate seeing the breakfasts and other fellowship events where we will be able to get to know you when we arrive. Jane in particular loves your fountain and looks forward to joining the community garden. We both look forward to being with you in person instead of via the computer.

To give you a brief introduction, I grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, and have lived a couple of places before returning to Northwestern Pennsylvania for my ministry. I have served St. John’s in Sharon, Pennsylvania, for the past sixteen years. My wife, Jane, is a social worker, and we have two grown children, Lily who lives in Chicago and Julia who lives in Western Kentucky. Much of my ministry has focused on leading worship and preaching, strategic planning, prayer, and helping other people develop their gifts to lead the ministries they are called to. I have also worked on a variety of boards and community development initiatives while I’ve been in Sharon.

I know the past year has been a difficult one for your parish. When I get to Escondido later this summer, I hope to worship, pray, and be present with you as the Holy Spirit continues God’s work of comfort, healing, and leading us into whatever is next for Trinity.

You will continue to be in our prayers. We are very excited to be part of your Trinity church family!

Peace, Adam

Pentecost reminds us that God does not erase our differences, he speaks through them. On that first Pentecost, people from many nations, cultures, and languages gathered together. They did not suddenly become the same. The miracle was that each person was able to hear and understand in their own language.

Unity did not come from uniformity.
It came through the Holy Spirit.
The Church is strongest not when everyone thinks alike, looks alike, or experiences life the same way, but when we remain connected in love despite our differences.

In a divided world, the Spirit still calls us to listen deeply, speak graciously, heal wounds, and seek understanding.
Pentecost is a reminder that diversity is not a barrier to God’s work it is an essential of it.

Many voices.
One spirit.
One community gathered in God’s love.

The Holy Spirit does not simply appear in dramatic moments like wind and fire at Pentecost. The Spirit is also present in the quiet ways we live, love, and care for one another each day.
The Church speaks of the Sevenfold Gifts of the Spirit:
Wisdom- choosing compassion over anger. Understanding — listening before judging.
Knowledge — recognizing God at work in our lives.
Counsel — helping others find their way with gentleness and grace.
Courage — standing for what is right even when it is difficult.
Piety — nurturing a faithful heart through prayer, worship, and service.
Fear of the Lord — living with awe, humility, and reverence for God’s presence.
These gifts are not reserved for saints of the past. They are alive in ordinary people, in everyday moments, in communities seeking hope and healing together.
Pentecost reminds us that the Spirit is still moving , still guiding, still transforming, still calling us to live more fully as the people.

What gift will you focus on this week?

Memorial Day Reflection:

Memorial Day provides us with a unique opportunity to pause, reflect, remember, and honor, those individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country. It is a solemn day to slow down and spend time with family. At the same time, we hope for a day when their sacrifices will no longer be necessary, when the world will live in peace and harmony, loving our neighbors as Christ loved us.

In July of 2025, Fr. Tom Callard, gave a sermon explaining who should be considered our neighbors. In it, he referenced the NASA photograph shot by Apollo 17 astronauts known as “The Blue Marble”. He suggested the photograph perfectly encapsulated God’s view of who our neighbors are: everyone. So as we go about our day this Memorial Day, let us pray.

Dear Lord,

We thank you for the men and women of our armed forces, praying for those who are currently serving that they may be protected and know your peace, and for those who have paid the ultimate price, that they may know your true peace and let light perpetual shine upon them. We pray for peace, unity and love in our community, the nation, and the world. Amen.

On behalf of the vestry I am pleased to share with you that after much prayer, discernment, and conversation, the vestry has officially made a call to our next Rector. I am happy to say that Bishop Susan Snook has been instrumental in assisting us in finding this candidate and had approved that call as of Saturday.

While we are not yet able to announce our candidates name publicly today, we will share those details with the congregation this coming Thursday via email , after he has had the opportunity to inform his current vestry and parish family.

This is an exciting and hopeful moment in the life of Trinity. At the same time, I know that for many of us, beginning a new chapter can also stir feelings of grief. Our love for Tom remains deep, and the pain of losing him so suddenly is something many of us still carry. We may never fully understand why someone who touched so many lives and served God so faithfully was taken from us so soon.
As we prepare to welcome new leadership, I encourage us not to think of this new Rector as Tom’s replacement. Tom’s ministry and presence in our lives were unique and sacred. Instead, let us see this new priest as another servant of God, one called to Trinity for this season , to help guide us as we continue our mission of bringing Christ to the people and the people to Christ.
I ask for your continued prayers for our the vestry, congregation, for our incoming Rector and his family, and for this new season of ministry together.
God is not finished with Trinity Episcopal Church. I truly believe wonderful things are ahead.

In the wake of yesterday’s tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, our neighbors are gathering tonight in grief and prayer. An interfaith vigil will be held this evening at 6:30 p.m. at Lindbergh Park (4141 Ashford St., San Diego), just around the corner from the Islamic Center.

In moments like this, our presence matters. Simply standing beside our neighbors in prayer and mourning is a powerful testimony to the dignity of every human being and to our shared commitment to peace.
