Here is a report on Eastern KY from the KBC:
Here are some things we know as of right now:
Gov. Andy Beshear says at least 15 people have died in Kentucky – and he expects that number to rise
The governor has declared a statewide emergency.
Kentucky’s congressional delegation has asked Pres. Biden to issue a presidential disaster declaration
Seven counties have been hardest hit: Perry, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Letcher, Owsley, and Pike
Emergency crews made close to 50 air rescues and hundreds of water rescues on Thursday, and more people still needed help on Friday
The governor says more than 200 people have sought shelter.
More than 30 thousand are reported to be without power
The National Guard has deployed to the hardest-hit areas.
Three state parks have set up shelters
The situation is continuing to develop but we know that this is historic flooding, and the response and rebuilding will also be historic. I have been in touch with Jamie Reynolds and several of our Eastern KY Pastors and they are saying to the man that this is the worst flooding they have ever seen in East KY.
Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief is currently organizing and preparing to receive teams from others states that will make their way to Kentucky. Their work is a testimony of our cooperative work together. We will also be providing direct help to churches and pastors through the Kentucky Cares fund.
People are asking how they can give to help. Feel free to direct people to https://www.kybaptist.org/flood/ to help with the Disaster Relief response.
We have NOT set anything else up to this point. We are reaching out to individuals to see what would be most beneficial outside Disaster Relief Teams, which are already been called to action. Be ready for more information to come!
