Peace to you Penn State Behrend!
My name is Fr. Brandon Feikles, and I am so thrilled to be your new chaplain. St. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 2:8 about his ministry there in the town of Thessalonica “...being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God, but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us”. In that spirit, I wish to share with you a little bit about me.
I am an Erie native, and grew up in Harborcreek not too far from where you all are. I am 31, and have an identical twin brother Cody who is married with 2 children, and a 3rd on the way! I attended St. James grade school, Cathedral Prep high school, and Gannon University for my undergraduate. I studied physical therapy before entering seminary where I studied philosophy and theology. I was ordained 3 months ago.
I began to think about becoming a priest when I was 18, a senior at Prep, after experiencing the love of God in a life-transformative way in Eucharistic adoration during the DME retreat program here in Erie. I wrestled for a few years with it, and eventually entered seminary for the Diocese in 2015. I left seminary in 2020 to discern more fully religious life, and moved to Pittsburgh to work and get a change of pace, where I worked 1) in a bike shop in the North Hills, 2) worked as a food truck evangelist, and 3) directed youth and young adult ministry for a parish grouping of 3 churches in the South Hills. I eventually joined the Capuchin Franciscans for a year, serving the poor, homeless, and drug addicts on the streets of Philadelphia. In 2022 I returned to Erie after discerning I was truly called to become a diocesan priest, and am now with you as a priest 3 months ordained. All glory to God!
