Today, Pastor Jonathan taught from I Kings 22.

God's Word is abundantly clear and this chapter gives us a vivid example of that. King Ahab does not want to hear from the Lord, instead, he seeks validation for what he wants to do. He found much support for what he wanted, but the clear word from the Lord was the only message that should have mattered to him.

Today, Pastor Jonathan taught from I Kings 21.

We have already seen the sinfulness of Ahab and Jezebel on other occasions, but this chapter reveals just how far they are willing to go. Ahab coveted a vineyard and when he could not acquire it through money, Jezebel devised a plan to kill the owner and steal the property. God cannot allow sin to go unpunished so he sends Elijah to share the coming judgement.

This letter, written by the Lord's half brother, is addressed to Jews scattered abroad because of persecution. He wants his readers to understand how to live wisely amidst persecution. He wants them to make a difference in the world for Christ's cause and God's glory.

Today, Pastor Mark taught from I Kings 20.

The focus of the historical narrative shifts to King Ahab and a threat from the King of Syria, Ben-Hadad. The enemy was formidable and confident, but God gave the armies into the hand of Israel not just once, but twice. The Lord had devoted Ben-Hadad to destruction, but Ahab made a covenant with the king instead and was judged for it. While the likelihood of us experiencing events like this one are slim, it is a great reminder that God is greater than even the greatest enemies that threaten the soul. How we respond in the wake of the victory God gives and the enemies that threaten matters.

As Paul writes this letter to Timothy, he emphasizes the importance of the truth of God's Word. Be committed to its purity and the preaching of it. Be willing to labor and suffer for the cause of it. It is a message that is most necessary and in keeping it there is great reward.

We have likely all experienced spiritual highs and lows. We have had times when we sense God's leading and power, truly walking by faith. Other times, we struggle with life's circumstances and wonder if God is really on our side. When difficult times come what are some things to keep in mind as we await God's direction? In this chapter God graciously directs Elijah to refocus.
