Most of us are totally fine with God’s mercy ... that is, until it starts nudging us toward those places that we really don’t want to go. We love the idea of a patient, close-by God, but we so often push back when His message starts stepping over our boundaries. Still, that’s exactly where God meets us, right in the middle of our running and our unraveling. One of the greatest stories of this relentless pursuit in the bible, Jonah, isn’t just a story about a reluctant prophet getting rescued. It’s an invitation to ALL of us to let God realign the things that have drifted in our hearts, soften what’s grown hard, and teach us to care about what truly matters to Him.
