Jesus didn't say "do good things and make the world a better place."

He said "You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world."

Salt restrains corruption — it keeps things from decay. Light exposes darkness and points people to the source of all truth.

Jesus was calling his people to be genuinely righteous from the heart, and to bear witness to the Gospel in the way they live and the words they speak.

That's a high calling. And an amazing privilege.
