It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Anthony Nutt.

David was born on August 18th, 1956, and passed away on April 14th, 2026, surrounded by family and friends. Throughout his journey of 69 years, he touched many lives with his kindness, humor, and good nature. His son Michael remembers his father as a “kind-hearted man.”

David was an Army veteran, where he learned to be a welder and mechanic. He enjoyed mechanical challenges and took pride in creating things with his hands. David loved spending time with his family and friends and had a passion for hunting, fishing, classic cars, playing cards, and baseball. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and the Florida Gators. He coached many seasons of Little League Baseball when his sons were younger. David was also an animal lover, with many dogs and cats over his lifetime, and he enjoyed feeding the ducks at a nearby pond.

He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
David is survived by his loving wife, Michele Nutt; his sons, Bryan and Michael Nutt; daughter-in-law, Maiza Nutt; granddaughter, Sofie Morado; and brothers, Paul Hutton, Marcus Nutt, and Riley Nutt. He is preceded in death by his father, Forrest E. Nutt; his mother, Alice “Mickey” Nutt; and his son, Jason Nutt.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on May 9th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Barnett United Methodist Church. We invite all who knew and loved David to join us in honoring his memory. There will be a short graveside Interment of the Ashes service at the Enterprise Evergreen Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church.

So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” John 10:9-10

The Song's Symbolic Meanings (Popular Interpretation)
While historians debate the song's coded origins, this is the common symbolic meaning assigned to each gift:
1 Partridge in a Pear Tree: Jesus Christ.
2 Turtle Doves: The Old & New Testaments.
3 French Hens: Faith, Hope, & Charity (Love).
4 Calling Birds: The Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John).
5 Golden Rings: First Five Books of the Old Testament (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy).
6 Geese a-Laying: The Six Days of Creation.
7 Swans a-Swimming: Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
8 Maids a-Milking: The Eight Beatitudes.
9 Ladies Dancing: Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (e.g., Love, Joy, Peace).
10 Lords a-Leaping: Ten Commandments.
11 Pipers Piping: Eleven Faithful Apostles (excluding Judas).
12 Drummers Drumming: Twelve Articles of the Apostles' Creed or Twelve Tribes of Israel.
Historical Context & Debate
The song originated as a secular French poem and was later adapted.
The idea that it was a secret Catholic catechism during English persecution (1558-1829) is a popular but largely unsubstantiated theory, according to many historians, as practicing faith openly was also restricted.

On this second day after Christmas, it is worth pausing to remember Joseph.

He stands within the Christmas story and yet remains largely in its margins. He is not the center, and rightly so. Christ alone occupies that place. Still, the story would not unfold as it does without Joseph.

Not a single word from Joseph is preserved in the four Gospels. Scripture records none of his speech, only his faith. And in this, his silence becomes eloquent.

Joseph is a righteous man. When God disclosed to him that Mary was with child by the Holy Spirit, he believed the miracle. He did not divorce her. Instead, he took Mary as his wife and shouldered the responsibility of caring for her and Jesus. He guarded her, provided for her, and became the earthly father to the child who was, in truth, the Son of God.

In faithfulness, Joseph carried an extraordinary calling: to care for God in the flesh.

In this way, Joseph embodies what it means to live as a child of God in the world: through quiet fidelity. He was a faithful husband, a faithful father, a faithful servant of the Most High.

So let us give thanks to God for Joseph and all the Joseph-like men who, unseen and often uncelebrated, continue to reflect this same faithful obedience.
