Rom. 6:6-7 Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin.

How’s Your Witness

One of the most frequently used phrases heard today regarding Christianity is, “Don’t judge me.” Actually, when it comes to my faith I expect people to “judge” me. I want them to see the difference God has made in my life.

No, I’m not perfect and will never be perfect on this side of heaven. However, I have been changed because of my relationship with Jesus Christ. The old me has been crucified so that I no longer have to continue living a life of sin.

Yes, it’s true that I won’t be anyone’s judge on judgement day. God has given that responsibility to His Son, Jesus Christ. I should, however, live a life that proves the spiritual truth that God can deliver us from the clutches of sin.

A life that honors Christ is evidence that God has changed us and we are His. A life lived in continual sin shows no evidence of a relationship with Him. What does your life (witness) say about you and your relationship with Christ? God bless you!

What a special day it was at church yesterday! We are so thankful for everyone who joined us for Bro. Bruce Williams' final sermon as the pastor of Goodman Baptist Church. We were blessed with a wonderful turnout and were encouraged to see so many church members, former members, friends, and loved ones come together for this meaningful service.

Thank you to everyone who attended, helped prepare the meal, served behind the scenes, and made it such a memorable day for our church family. We are grateful for the many lives that have been touched through Bro. Bruce and Mrs. Terre's ministry here over the last 20 years, and we continue to pray for them as they begin this new chapter of life. Here are a few photos and videos from yesterday’s service. We hope you enjoy looking back on this special day with us. ❤️

Isaiah 32:2b As rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Refreshing Rest

Summer is fast approaching South Alabama. Temperatures will soon be in the high 90’s with humidity nearly as high as well. Some call it sweltering heat. My brother-in-law, who lives in Kentucky, calls it Sahara Desert hot.

I’ll admit that it can get pretty hot here. If I’m doing activities that require me to be outside in the heat, I always try to have some water handy and I occasionally have to find some shade to escape the sun’s often unbearable heat.

Our lives can sometimes feel as though we are under the rays of a scorching sun. It can feel as if our souls are dry and our spirit is exhausted. That’s when it is necessary to drink from the Living Water and hide under the shadow of His wing.

The pressures and stressors of life may not go away, but they are no longer unbearable when we experience His refreshing rest. Don’t allow the heat to make you weary. Find refreshment and rest in the Rock, Jesus Christ. God bless you!

Psalm 51:16-17 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.

Brokenness

There are very few times in life when breaking something is considered good. Whether it is a plate from a generational set of dishes or your favorite fishing pole, it is seldom pleasant when something breaks.

If we break something that belonged to someone else we feel even worse. We usually try our best to replace what was broken or attempt to restore it to its original condition.

Sin causes us to have a broken relationship with God. We will often go to great lengths to try to restore the brokenness, but fail to realize it can only be restored through confession and repentance.

God doesn't want us to try to "fix" our sin. He desires that our contrite heart will lead us to Him. Brokenness is not meant to destroy us, it is meant to heal us. Allow God to restore your brokenness. God bless you!

Pro. 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Understanding Our Frailties

I remember reading a story about a jet skier that caught my attention. He had gotten separated from his fellow jet skiers and was thrown from his jet ski. When his family realized what had happened they knew that he couldn't swim and feared the worst.

The man was found alive floating in the bay after hours of searching. He had been wearing a life jacket and it saved his life. Many people refuse to acknowledge their limitations due to a prideful attitude and suffer tremendously because of it.

This man is alive today because he understood his limitations and took precautions to prevent death. Far too many people ignore the reality of impending death and an eternity separated from God, due to pride.

Are you ignoring the fact that you are mortal? Don't allow pride to keep you from making preparations that will protect you. The most important preparation in life regards eternity and Jesus is our only hope for eternal life. Don’t fall because of pride. God bless you!

Psalm 122:8-9 For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, “Peace be within you.” Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good.

God's House Is For Good

The word "Church" has sometimes gotten a bad reputation over the years. Seldom do you hear of the good things that God is doing at churches around the world, but let some scandal happen in one and it is headline news.

I believe that every church that is honoring God with sound Biblical teaching and preaching is also a fellowship of believers who do their best to help others and promote the goodness of God.

Churches are often ridiculed for wanting money, but are rarely recognized for the many needy families they help throughout the years. I am thankful for the positive impact of the churches I have attended and/or pastored.

I agree with the Psalmist. Because of God's house, I will seek good for you physically and spiritually. Church is not a perfect place because it is occupied by imperfect people. But, it is a wonderful place for good. God bless you!

Matt. 13:3;7 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow...and some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them.

The Company We Keep

There are many sayings regarding the importance of the company we keep. "You can't wallow with hogs and not get muddy," "If you run with dogs, you're going to get fleas," etc.

Why is the character of those with whom we associate important? Believe it or not, we are all influenced by others. It is important to seek good influences and do our best to avoid bad influences.

Jesus told a parable of the danger of surrounding ourselves with worldly, ungodly (thorns) influence. Our desire to live for Christ gets choked out and our witness is hampered.

Be alert and discerning when choosing close friends. Choose those who will strengthen your relationship with Christ, not diminish it. We can’t choose our family, but we can choose our friends. Let’s choose wisely. God bless you!

Luke 23:39-43 Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Never And Forever

The final moments of Jesus' life on the cross are a poignant reminder of the opportunity for eternal life or eternal damnation. The thieves who were crucified on each side of Jesus are a snapshot of man's attitude toward God.

Although guilty of the charges and deserving of punishment, one of the thieves treats Christ like a genie and says, “Get us out of here." Because of his unrepentant heart, it is now "Forever" too late for him.

The other thief realizes his guilt, confesses his sin and acknowledges that his punishment is just. He then asks Jesus for mercy. Not only is he given mercy, he is also granted eternal life. “Today, (and forever) you’ll be with Me in Paradise.”

Acknowledge your sinful condition and take advantage of the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness. Don't wait for never saved to become forever condemned. Ask God for forgiveness today! God bless you!

I Chr. 28:20a And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you.”

Confidence In God

Have you ever seen a small child who was hesitant to try something new or was fearful of going into a room alone? Usually, all that was required to ease their minds was for their mother or father to be at their side.

There is something about a loved one’s presence that provides comfort and assurance for a child that enables them to overcome their fears. The same can be true spiritually for adults.

Some of the situations that we face in life can cause us to be fearful and hesitant to make a decision. David reminds us that God will be with us and will never leave us. Therefore, we are to be spiritually strong and have courage.

If there is something in your life that has you worried, frightened, or dismayed, prayerfully turn it over to God. He will be by your side and provide the strength and confidence you need to see it through. God bless you!
