DAY 3 — LET A MAN EXAMINE HIMSELF

Scripture
1 Corinthians 11:28 KJV
“But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.”

Devotional
Notice carefully what Scripture says:
“Let a man examine himself.”
It does not say examine everyone else.
That is often easier.
We can see another person’s attitude, another person’s failure and another person’s inconsistency while overlooking what is happening within our own hearts.
But God’s Word turns the mirror toward us.
Before pointing across the aisle, across the table or across the church, Scripture says:
Examine yourself.
Ask the Lord to search your heart.
Is there bitterness?
Pride?
Unforgiveness?
Hidden sin?
Religious hypocrisy?
Have we been saying one thing on Sunday while living another way during the week?
Self-examination is not about proving ourselves worthy of Christ.
None of us could do that.
It is about allowing God’s Word to expose what is in us and responding to Him honestly.

Reflection
When God’s Word exposes something in me, do I repent or defend myself?
Am I more concerned about someone else’s spiritual condition than my own?

DAY 2 — THE CUP SPEAKS OF HIS BLOOD
Scripture

1 Corinthians 11:25 KJV
“After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.”

Devotional
The cup points us to something we must never forget: The blood of Jesus Christ. Scripture does not allow us to remove the blood from the message of redemption.

Hebrews 9:22 tells us:
“…without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Our forgiveness did not come because God simply overlooked sin. Sin had a cost. And Christ paid it. The cup reminds us that our confidence before God is not found in church membership, baptism, good works, religious titles or how long we have been Christians. Our hope rests completely in Jesus Christ and what He accomplished.

The question is not:
“What have I done for God?”
The greater question is:
“Am I resting in what Christ has done for me?”
Reflection What am I tempted to place confidence in besides Christ?
Am I depending completely upon His finished work?

DAY 1 — REMEMBER WHAT THE BREAD COST

Scripture
1 Corinthians 11:23–24 KJV

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

Devotional
“This do in remembrance of me.”
The Lord’s Supper turns our attention away from ourselves and back to Christ. The bread is not an opportunity to remember how good we have been.

It reminds us how good He is.

Christ gave Himself for us.

Before we casually approach the Lord’s table, we should remember what it represents. Jesus was betrayed, mocked, beaten, rejected and crucified.

And He willingly endured it. “Which is broken for you.”

Those words should humble us. We can become so familiar with the story of Calvary that we forget its weight. The cross can become another Bible story, another sermon or another religious symbol.

But Calvary was the place where the spotless Lamb of God gave Himself for sinners. When we remember the bread, we remember Him.

Reflection
Have I become too familiar with the cross?
When I think about Christ’s sacrifice, does it still humble my heart?

Lamps Trimmed for the Bridegroom’s Return

The virgins’ lamps weren’t decorative but directional—flames meant to pierce night’s gloom until the Bridegroom came. Oil symbolizes the Spirit’s work: not a one-time filling but sustained readiness. Cultural Christianity stockpiles rituals; true faith keeps wicks trimmed through repentance, prayer, and obedience. When Christ splits the sky, no last-minute scramble for oil will suffice. Either the flame burns now, or darkness reigns then.

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (Matthew 25:1-4, KJV)

Reflection: Does your spiritual preparedness depend on borrowed light (church programs, others’ prayers), or is your vessel daily replenished by fresh encounters with the Spirit?

Abiding in the Word That Breathes Life

Jesus didn’t say “agree with my words” but “abide in them”—a call to sink roots into His truth like vines clinging to life-giving soil. The law exposed failure; His words impart resurrection. To treat Scripture as a self-help manual or theological trophy is to miss the Living Word pulsing in every syllable. Just as manna rotted when hoarded, truth stagnates when studied without surrender. Daily feasting on Christ’s voice isn’t duty; it’s the breath of those born anew.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32, KJV)

Reflection: Is your Bible engagement marked by abiding—a relational tarrying—or hurried scanning? What would it look like today to let His words “make” you rather than just inform you?

Christ’s Exodus Through Death’s Door

Jesus spoke of His impending “exodus” at the Transfiguration—not a geographic departure but a cosmic rescue through death. Where Moses led Israel through water, Christ stormed death’s fortress, seizing hell’s keys. His bloody exodus didn’t merely escape bo***ge; it obliterated the prison. The Passover Lamb’s blood once shielded doorposts; now the Crucified’s blood marks eternity’s threshold. To hide beneath it is life; to ignore it is to face the Destroyer unshielded.

And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. (Luke 9:30-31, KJV)

Reflection: Are you still trying to scrub bloodstains from your life’s doorpost, or have you let Christ’s sacrifice become your only claim to safety before God’s judgment?

WHAT ARE WE PUTTING EQUAL WITH CHRIST?

There is only ONE true Tabernacle—and it is not a building made by human hands.
It is the LORD.

Hebrews points us away from the earthly copy and toward the “true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” — Hebrews 8:2 KJV

The earthly tabernacle had a purpose. The priesthood had a purpose. The sacrifices had a purpose. They all pointed beyond themselves to CHRIST.

But here is the question we need to ask:
Have we taken things that were meant to point us to Christ and placed them beside Christ?

A church building?�
A job?�
A Preacher or Church Leader?�
A title or position in Church?�
A tradition?�
A ministry?�
A religious system in the Church?

None of these can stand equal with the Lord.

Anything we place beside Christ as though it carries the same authority, devotion, dependence, or glory has been given a place it was never meant to have.

Jesus is not one part of our faith.

HE IS THE CENTER.�HE IS THE WAY.�HE IS OUR HIGH PRIEST.�HE IS THE TRUE TABERNACLE.�HE ALONE GETS THE GLORY.

So examine the heart today:
What have we elevated to a place that belongs to Christ alone?

May everything else decrease until CHRIST ALONE is what people see.

This Is My Son” – Heaven’s Final Word

On the Mount of Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah stood beside Christ, yet the Father’s voice thundered not about lawgivers or prophets, but His Son. The glory of Sinai’s fading radiance paled before the sun-bright face of Jesus. Religious tradition, moral striving, and spiritual nostalgia all bow to His supremacy. To build equal “tabernacles” for Jesus and lesser things is to miss the Father’s declaration: every hope, fear, and ambition must yield to the Beloved.

While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. (Matthew 17:5, KJV)

Reflection: What “tabernacles” have you constructed for things that compete with Christ’s supremacy? How does the Father’s command to “hear Him” recalibrate your spiritual priorities?
