Taego Zen Center

Taego Zen Center Taego Zen Center is located at Borisa Temple. We offer weekly services and meditation sittings as well as private one-on-one instruction.

Taego Zen Center is a place of self-reflection, hard work, dedication, and self-realization. Welcome to Taego Zen Center. Taego Buddhist Zen Center was formed to disseminate and propagate the Dharma, the teachings of Shakymuni Buddha, as recorded in the ancient scriptures, as interpreted and transmitted by the Ancestors, and as experienced personally. Zen Buddhism, with its emphasis on meditation,

is a way of cultivating compassion and wisdom through radical acceptance of what is. Meditation becomes an awareness and mindfulness of all that is, moment-to-moment and an appreciation of life in all its manifestations. At Taego Zen Center you will learn and experience meditation; chanting and Buddhist theory. You will have a direct relationship with your teacher, just has it has been done for centuries. Taego Zen Center is a place of self reflection, hard work, dedication and self realization.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Here is a thankful prayer to share at your holiday meal.

“As we gather around this table of delicious and abundant food, may we celebrate the innumerable beings and the causes and conditions of nature that brought this food to our table.

As we gather around this table of delicious and abundant food, may we celebrate all those present who lovingly prepared this meal.

As we gather around this table of delicious and abundant food, may we celebrate the joy of being with beloved family and friends.

May we and all beings have happiness, be free from suffering, abide in blissful equanimity and always be grateful for the abundant blessings of this life.”

Here is a new poem. May your practice be joyous and effortless. 🙏🏼☮️

The Leaves of the Elders

The leaves of the elders rustle
In the autumn’s changing winds
Gently creating a vacuum
Where resentment is slowly drawn in and
Dispersed into the ether

The leaves of the elders crackle
Under the steps of seekers
Drawn to the flame of wisdom
Where bitterness is purified in a
Sea of unbounded emptiness

The leaves of the elders molder
On the floor of the ancient forest
Where hatred is absorbed in the
Embrace of the mother, Earth

The leaves of the elders decay
Leaving traces of their being
Every place and any place
That anger is tempered by the
Cooling waters of the immeasurable

The leaves of the elders dissolve
Moving in all directions
Expanding in all dimensions
Having shared in existences
perceived and not perceived
Sensed and not sensed
Conscious and not Conscious

In a pool of water
Infused by the remains of
The leaves of the elders
The moon reflects
The moon refreshes
The moon renews
And then whispers silently
To the leaves of the elders

I had a wonderful time a wonderful practice with 법주 법사님,
Dharma Teacher Bup Joo. He is a excellent teacher. We had a wonderful discussion about the Sutra
Of Perfect enlightenment, a Korean guide to meditation by A. Charles Mueller.

What is Perfect Enlightenment?
Please give Bup Joo some hints for his dharma talk on this sutra!!

“And should there be any remaining merit,
let none of it come to me.
May it all be transferred
to the incomparable, eternal
Dharma. “

This quote exemplifies Mahayana altruism. It is a verse at the end of ‘The 108 Prostrations of Repentance’. First, you transfer all merit from doing the prostrations to all sentient beings; and then you transfer to others even the additional merit for having just transferred the prostration merit.

It should be our practice to transfer all merit, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to others rather than to accumulate it for ourselves.

Repenting on behalf of all sentient beings, praying for all sentient beings, and transferring merit to all sentient beings should be the basic attitude, duty, and mission of all those who truly believe in Buddhism.

Ven. Tong Songchol (1912~1993), also SeongCheol, one of the great Zen masters in the last century was also called the ‘Living Buddha of Korea’.
