On this day in 1522 Martin Luther's translation of the New Testament was published.

The September Testament made God's Word more accessible to believers and paved the way for translations of the Bible and the New Testament into many other languages.

“For some years now,” Luther said in his Table Talk, “I have read through the Bible twice every year. If you picture the Bible to be a mighty tree and every word a little branch, I have shaken every one of these branches because I wanted to know what it was and what it meant.”

On this feast day of the Holy Cross, let us pray:
"Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ was lifted high upon the cross so that he might draw the whole world to himself. To those who look upon the cross, grant your wisdom, healing, and eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Today, we commemorate Mary, the Mother of Our Lord.
Almighty God, in choosing the virgin Mary to be the mother of your Son, you made known your gracious regard for the poor, the lowly, and the despised. Grant us grace to receive your word in humility, and so to be made one with your Son, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
