OUR PURPOSE: Seaside Center for Spiritual Living is a loving, supportive, inclusive community, which inspires all to experience their spiritual unfoldment, healing and growth through the principles of Science of Mind. Our spiritual family gratefully celebrates the abundance of life and honors each individual's unity with God. Our joy is to express Spirit through service, making a difference in the

lives of all those we touch. Seaside Center for Spiritual Living is dedicated to loving, caring for, and welcoming all seekers of Truth who reach out to know God. This spiritual community honors the inherent goodness and divinity in all humanity, appreciating the rich diversity in the multi-faceted tapestry of our spiritual family. Healing takes place here, for this is a home we come to in times of joy or sorrow, laugher or tears. There is no judgment— only the divine embrace. At Seaside, understanding and support are the common expressions of love. We are a growing, dynamic, spiritual community in which like minds come together to pray and to play. Many say that finding Seaside is like coming home. Spiritual principles are joyfully practiced and honored. And children are celebrated, as reflected in our stellar youth programs. Seaside is a place of beauty and of renewal. We are the blessed stewards of holy ground. People feel the Presence here and know they are embraced in Love. OUR VISION is to inspire people to live their Divinity. Seaside is flourishing with classes and spiritual support at our campus and online. We nurture and support small groups to enhance everyone’s sense of belonging and connectedness. In order to continue this work, we intend to ensure that resources are ever available to fulfill our mission. You can support our vision by donating at www.seasidecenter.org/donate/

Dad’s Gifts

Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes, adventurers, storytellers and singers of song. – Unknown

Dad’s unconditional love is essential whether your child is succeeding, stumbling, struggling or soaring. Dads play a vital role in helping their children find strength and courage in themselves. To be there and love is one of the greatest and most lasting gifts dads can give. To know dad’s love is there, no matter what, is a gift not only to his child but also to his grandchild. Dad’s imprint will last a lifetime. Poet Anne Sexton wrote, “It doesn't matter who my father was; it matters who I remember he was.”

Being involved in your child’s life only when it’s convenient doesn't work. Being there when it’s important to them or during challenging times doesn’t always come with appreciation, but your love and guidance is remembered. These precious moments allow a glimpse into the future. Dads can see something in their children before anyone else knows it’s there. Fathers believe in you even when you don’t. Their gift can be more than a thousand teachers. Make sure it’s the gift of love.

Spiritual Contemplation: What are some of your dad’s gifts that are imprinted on your heart?

Affirmation: I am grateful for the gifts of love from my father woven through my life today!

Leave it at the Door

It is a common experience that a problem difficult at night is resolved in the morning after the committee of sleep has worked on it. – John Steinbeck

A colleague dropped his carpenter friend off at home after work each evening and witnessed him pausing before a pine tree and touching its branches before going into the house. Nightly, he watched him through the window, smiling and hugging his children and kissing his wife. One day when picking his buddy up before work he asked him about his nightly ritual. The carpenter said, “That’s my trouble tree. I can’t help having issues through the course of my day, but they don’t belong at home, so I hang them on the tree before going in at night. Then, in the morning, I’ll pick them up. The funny thing is when I do, there doesn’t seem to be as many as I remembered hanging the night before.”

Spiritual Contemplation: What issues would be good for you to leave at the door and not bring home?

Affirmation: I leave behind the troubles of this day as I step into a glorious new day!

Cracking Open

There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in. – Leonard Cohen

Along your life’s journey, there will be moments when you feel like you are being stretched and tested. Growth is often uncomfortable. I can remember my brother as a teen agonizing over the pain he was experiencing as he grew six inches in nine months. I was amazed at the process of watching him go from a chubby 5-foot-7-inch kid to a lean 6-foot-3-inch man! I have seen the spiritual growth of many counseling clients who have dug deep into their shadow to explore and open to a greater truth about themselves. It can be hard work, but it is always worth it.

Those things we are uncomfortable with about ourselves get stuffed, and we avoid looking at them. We are afraid of what it means about ourselves. But our nature is to grow and evolve, and those things that we stuff down will pop up again because these negative emotions hold the key to our healing. We are afraid that we will shatter into a million pieces, but what happens is that we crack open to a broader view of who we are. We heal when we acknowledge our disowned feelings and allow them to speak into our lives. Then we become deeper and more compassionate points of light in the world. Our healing serves a greater purpose than just for ourselves. When we do the hard work of healing, we make it easier for those around us to do the same. What a gift we can give to ourselves and each other.

Spiritual Contemplation: What are you afraid to look at or address in your life currently? Is there a trusted friend or counselor you could share this with and receive support to do the hard work of looking at your shadow?

Affirmation: I allow myself to crack wide open and let the light of truth into my life!

Love Your Awareness Open

With mindfulness, you can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment. – Thich Nhat Hanh

Mindfulness helps you to see that life is happening through you, not to you. Your outer world reflects the blueprint you hold in your belief system. Reverse engineering leads you back to how it was created. Mind Body Medicine helps you to recognize the interactions between thoughts, emotions, even societal factors and how they directly impact your body. If there is stress in any of those regions, it’s important to be aware that chronic stress has a tendency to take form in the body.

Self-awareness, caring for yourself and expressing yourself are keys to physical healing. Let go of the comfort you find in your prior assumptions of how healing must look. Love your awareness out into the open. Welcome your observing self to give you some feedback about stress points in your life. Ask this self-awareness what you could do now to better care for your body and mind. Inquire about what and where you are holding something inside that is asking to be expressed in your life. You are the gatekeeper to your soul; mindfulness is the invitation to see the active blueprint of your life, ready and waiting.

Spiritual Contemplation: What inner stirring is vying for your awareness? What is your body is attempting to tell you? What is seeking to be released?

Affirmation: I hear what my body and mind are telling me!
