Return of the Edith May Adams Collection of Arapaho Artifacts to the Arapaho People on October 14th, 2024.

After nearly 80 years, the Episcopal Church in Wyoming will return a collection of approximately 200 Northern Arapaho artifacts to the Arapaho people. This collection was deeded to The Church by Edith May Adams in 1946 to be held in safekeeping for the tribes of the Wind River Reservation.
For decades, this collection has been kept safely in storage at the offices of the Episcopal Church of Wyoming. In 2012 the Church entered into an agreement with the Northern Arapaho Tribe to loan a small number of artifacts for display in the newly developed Northern Arapaho Cultural Experience Room at the Wind River Hotel and Casino.

At that time, conversations also began about the ultimate return of the artifacts to the Arapaho people. Twelve years later, the decision was made to formally transfer ownership and physical custody of the artifacts to the Arapaho people. It is time.

On October 14, the Northern Arapaho Tribe and The Episcopal Church in Wyoming will host a Coming Home Celebration - Noe'heeckoohut Hiisi' - at St. Michael's Circle in Ethete beginning at 1:00 pm. The event is open to the public.
