sermon: "No By Might"

05/26/2026

5-26-25
Today’s devotion is based on Ezekiel 36:27, “I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes.”

God does not merely command obedience—He provides what He commands. By His Spirit, He transforms hearts and enables His people to walk in His ways. The Christian life is God’s work within us.

Holy Spirit, lead me in Your ways and renew my heart daily. Amen.

Today’s devotion is based on John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Today we give thanks for those who served with courage and devotion, and we remember that every earthly sacrifice ultimately points us to Christ’s perfect sacrifice. Because He died and rose again, death no longer has the final word. Those who die in faith rest in the promise of the resurrection.
As we remember the fallen, may we also pray for peace, comfort for grieving families, and hearts that trust in the saving mercy of Christ alone.

Merciful Lord, we thank You for those who gave their lives in service to others. Grant comfort to grieving families and peace to our nation. Above all, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection give us forgiveness, life, and eternal hope. In His holy name we pray. Amen.

sermon: The Tower of Babel

05/24/2026

5-24-25
Today’s devotion is based on Acts 2:1-4, “When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Today, on Pentecost Sunday, we celebrate the fulfillment of Christ's promise to His disciples. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, proclaiming the wonders of God.

The same fire that ignited the early Church at Pentecost still burns in our hearts today through the Word and Sacrament. The Spirit equips us, comforts us, and sends us into a broken world to proclaim the unconditional grace and mercy found only in Christ Jesus.

Lord God, heavenly Father, on this day You taught the hearts of Your faithful people by sending them the light of Your Holy Spirit. Grant us, by the same Spirit, to rejoice in His holy comfort; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Today’s devotion is based on John 16:7, “It is to your advantage that I go away… the Helper will come to you.”

Jesus’ ascension makes the coming of the Holy Spirit possible. Through the Spirit, Christ is present with believers everywhere. The Spirit comforts, teaches, and strengthens faith. God has not withdrawn—He is nearer than ever.

Come, Holy Spirit, and fill my heart with faith and understanding. Amen.

Today’s devotion is based on Acts 1:8, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses.”

The Christian life is not passive. The Spirit equips you to bear witness to Christ. This does not mean you must be bold or eloquent on your own. The power comes from the Spirit, not from you. He works through your words, your life, and your personal testimony.
Witnessing is simply speaking the Gospel—what Christ has done for you. It is not about persuasion but about proclamation. God uses ordinary people to share an extraordinary message.

Lord, give me courage to speak of Christ and trust Your Spirit to work. Amen.

5-21-26
Today’s devotion is based on John 14:26, “He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

The Holy Spirit does not speak on His own authority—He brings you the words of Christ. His work is to keep you connected to Jesus. This means you do not need to search for hidden truths or new revelations. God has already spoken clearly in His Word, and the Spirit leads you deeper into that truth.

This is why Scripture is central. The Spirit works through it to teach, correct, comfort, and strengthen faith. When you hear or read God’s Word, the Spirit is actively at work in you.

Spirit of truth, keep me grounded in Christ’s Word and grow my faith. Amen.

5-20-26
Today’s devotion is based on John 14:16, “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”

Jesus promises that you are not alone. The Holy Spirit is given as your Helper—your comforter, teacher, and guide. This is an enduring promise: “to be with you forever.” No matter where you are or what you face, the Spirit is with you. The Spirit works through the Word and Sacraments, where He creates and sustains faith, bringing Christ’s gifts to you again and again. You do not walk the Christian life by your own strength. God Himself is at work in you.

Holy Spirit, remain with me and strengthen my faith through Your Word. Amen.
