Manna for the Week:
"Live life like God Intended" ~Philippines 3:12-14
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Living for Jesus Christ requires that the Christian bring his life under control, a kind of self-mastery. I have long felt that the apostle Paul was an outstanding athlete; but if he was not, we can be certain he had a keen appreciation for athletic contest because of his frequent allusion to them. Each time he makes such a reference, his point is that Christians must develop a spiritual discipline comparable to the strenuous training the athlete undergoes in preparation for his event.
Think About It!
Learning to control your selfish desires may be one of the most difficult of all your steps toward Christian maturity. At the very beginning, it requires an alignment of motives with the will of Christ. So many things that you say, or think, or do are designed to serve only your own purposes; and this simply will not do for a follower of Christ. Motives color everything you do.
Be About It!
Serve the Savior in humility. And love your neighbor as you love yourself.
